Join us for our third drinks night of 2026 at The City Gate Hotel in Exeter. We have booked some outside space for another one of our busy pub events. We are a friendly group and welcome new members. If you’ve not been to one of our events before, and are unsure about walking in on your own, please let me know. I can meet you outside first and introduce you to some people. Fingers crossed for some spring weather!

Join us for a wonderful linear riverside walk along the Dart Valley Trail from Totnes to Dittisham. This is a fabulous walk in South Devon along a waymarked route of lanes and riverside paths. We will stop part along the way to enjoy a packed lunch and then arrive at the small riverside village of Dittisham where we can enjoy tea and cakes. We'll then continue our walk by taking the regular ferry across to Greenway Quay and walking to Churston, from where we can catch a bus to Paignton and (for those who need to) a returning bus to Totnes.

The Dart Valley never disappoints and this walk takes in lovely villages, the river and passes by Agatha Christie's former home of Greenway.

The total walking distance is 11 miles and the walking involves an overall ascent of 440 metres. The terrain involves lanes, paths and fields with some significant ascents and descents. Please wear good waling trainers or walking boots.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.

You will need a contactless card or device to pay for the Dittisham Ferry (£3.50) and bus fares when we get to Churston.

This walk starts in Totnes, with regular train and bus connections to other places in Devon, and the walk finishes in Churston, from where we can catch a frequent 12 bus to Paignton Station and, for those who need to get back to Totnes, an hourly 80 service towards Totnes.

Join us for a walking weekend in the land of Arthurian myth and legend, North Cornwall! We’ll meet at Tintagel Visitor Centre at 11.45am on Saturday 20th June 2026, from where we can take the 12.01pm bus to the picturesque village of Boscastle.

Following a refreshments in the village we will walk the South West coast path back to Tintagel, enjoying the dramatic coastline of islands and arches. The walk is around 5.5 miles in length but the terrain is hilly and the severity of the walk is fairly strenuous. However we will be rewarded with some spectacular coastal views.

On arrival back into Tintagel there will be time to check in to accommodation. Dinner is booked for 7.00pm at The Olde Malthouse Inn, a link to the menu is here: https://malthousetintagel.com/our-food/#Menu

On the Sunday we’ll meet outside the Tintagel Visitor Centre at 10.00am for a walk to St Nectan’s Glen, a sacred valley with a breathtaking waterfall, temperate rain forest and serene woodland (entry is £10.00). We will stop for lunch at the waterfall cafe before heading back to the coast down the beautiful Rocky Valley. We’ll finish with afternoon tea and cake at Tintagel Cafe Beach Cafe by Merlin’s Cave. This walk is around six miles and again will be strenuous in places.

Accommodation in Tintagel for this event is currently affordable with several different options. Please arrange your own accommodation and book early. Some of us are staying at the Tintagel Arms Bed and Breakfast. If you’d like to attend just part of the event that’s absolutely fine.

Join us for a beautiful walk through rural Somerset and its golden villages. This is a circular walk starting and finishing in the village of Stoke-sub-Hamdon. Realistically, you need access to a car to get there (see below).

We meet in the car park in the centre of the village at 10:30am. Our walk, which only involves one noticeable climb, takes in four villages built largely from the golden hamstone, quarried from Ham Hill, roughly in the centre of all of them.

Stoke-sub-Hamdon is itself quite attractive, and includes the Priory owned by the National Trust. From there, we set off to Norton-sub-Hamdon, a little smaller, but with the same general feel. Onwards from there, we come to Chiselborough, a very pleasant spot for a break. Next, we make our way to the last of the four villages, and perhaps the best known, Montacute. This is home to Montacute House, generally regarded as the finest Elizabethan mansion in the South-West. There is an entrance fee if you wish to visit, but we’ll get an excellent view of the exterior just by taking a public footpath into the park at the rear.

Our route back takes up St. Michael’s Hill, topped by an 18th century folly. From there, we carry on to Ham Hill, once a quarry, now a country park offering great views across the Somerset countryside. Finally, it’s just a short descent back into Stoke with the option to visit one of the nice pubs as we finish.

Estimated total distance: 6 miles.
All of the villages visited have imposing churches – most at least also have pubs.

Lunch is a choice between bringing a packed lunch and a pub lunch (the Cat Head Inn in Chiselborough: https://www.thecathead.co.uk/).

To drive to Stoke: take the A30 past Honiton, which after a further few miles turns into the A303. Take the turning off towards Crewkerne (A356). Take the first left towards Stoke not long after you’ve gone under the A303. After about a mile, you’ll be in the centre of the village. Turn right towards the signposted free car park and park there – just after you turn off here, it’s on the right. Allow 1.5 hours from Exeter.
