== About the Museum ==
Vizille is combination of Museum and Gardens (100 hectares of the outdoor garden spaces, as well as the Museum itself housed within the Chateau/Castle.

The chateau played a pivotal role in the history of the aftermath of the French revolution; this pivotal time in French history is the subject of the museum; come and learn about it!

"The Vizille Estate is first and foremost, a castle that had played a key role in history.
The collections gather pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings.
The Museum of the French Revolution is housed inside the Castle of Vizille, the formal home of the Dukes of Lesdiguières. It is in this prestigious setting that the work of arts and historical artifacts from the period of the Revolution and the 19th century are presented.

It has a landscaped park that has been classified as a “Remarkable Garden.” Inside the park, you will be able to admire the tremendous ornamental lake which often served as a playground for swans, ducks, and even herons. Along the banks, you will discover the French-style gardens, and magnificent roses.

An animal park is home to stags, deer, and roes roaming together more or less freely."

The Vélo route from Grenoble to Vizille is a VERY EASY route. Approximately 2 hours of riding, 20.5 km distance, and at max inline 2% incline grade (Very Flat).

Our ETA for arrival by Bicycle is 10:30->11:00 AM. We will coalesce at the entrance.
Take the regional bus line "X03 Vizille", get off at the "Chantefeuille" stop in Vizille

• Petite snack, coffee, fill your water, group inspect of bicycles!
  * 08:45: Depart (+/- 15 minutes)
  * 09:00-11:00: Leisurely cycling to Vizille
  * 11:00-11:15: Second breakfast/snack
  * 11:30-12:30: Visit the Museum Part I (inside the Castle / Château)
  The museum closes at 12:30/noon/midi to visitors for 1 hours lunch break for staff
  * 12:45-13:45: Relaxing picnic in the beautifully manicured Victorian gardens & lawns under a shade tree and enjoy
  * 14:00-15:00: A walk/tour the Grounds/Parks to visit the outdoor Zoo, often with Swans, Peacocks, Stags, Deer on exhibit
  * 15:00-16:00: Return to Museum for Part II of visit
  * 16:00-18:00: Return ride back to Grenoble

== Supplies to Bring ==
-) Bicycle Helmet (Casque, this is an absolute requirement)
-) Comfortable clothes for cycling for 2 hours in warm weather

-) Picnic Blankets (The grounds may be wet)
-) WATER: Depending on your fitness, you may need to drink as much as to 3 liters of water. You can fill up bottles and water revivors at the Fountain du Lion before departure, as well as several public water founts along the way, there are fountains at the Museum Vizille
-) Any required prescriptions or treatments for allergies you may have.

== Road Cycling Etiquette for the Group Ride ==
-) Wear a helmet (casque) ; this is an absolute requirement for event.
-) Follow all traffic laws
-) Be respectful of pedestrians and especially elderly persons
-) Stay together as a group
-) Verbally call out any hazards that you spot ("fait attention Hazards!!", "Car En face or Derrière!", "Pot hole!", or "Dog Poop!", "Broken Glass")
-) Eat a sufficient breakfast before departure.
-) Charge your phone, bring a charger or spare battery, etc.
-) Please perform a basic mechanical check on your bicycle the week before the event:
- Inflate tires ( PSI written on the side )
- Lubricate your chain (it should be silent)
- Test the brakes function

Our first visit to a new local museum renovated/created by the Department:

A most recently opened museum covering the life and works and accomplishments of the brothers Champollion (born and studied in Grenoble/Isere) and their contribution to modern Egyptology including the translation/deciphering of The Rosetta Stone.

"Installed in the historic family property (chateau) of Champollion in Village of Vif, the Champollion Museum presents the life and work of Jean-François, famous decipherer of hieroglyphs, and his older brother Jacques-Joseph, also renowned intellectual. Within the house, the reconstructed spaces, personal objects and work notes plunge you into the intellectual effervescence of the early 19th century. From Isère to the banks of the Nile, witness the rediscovery of Egypt and the birth of Egyptology. Also enjoy the garden and the park, restored in the spirit of the 19th century."

"The mountain troops museum is a military museum located since 2009 in the Bastille fort in Grenoble . It pays homage to the alpine hunters nicknamed 'The blue Devils' since the First World War.

Thanks to a multilingual audio guide, it presents over 600 m^2 of history of Soldiers [and Regiments from this region] specializing in mountain combat, the origins of which date back to 1888. Weapons, uniforms, transmission equipment, maps and testimonies retrace the highlights of these events."

From 1888 to Afghanistan, Soldiers and Regiments from this region have been using their specialty skills of combat in a mountainous terrain.

With the recent events of NATO extricating itself from Afghanistan after 20 years, it is an appropriate time to re-visit this museum and pay homage.

Optionally, you may meet us directly at 14:30 directly at the top, or take the Téléphérique Grenoble-Bastille (The "Cable Car" that ascends up to the Bastille) and ride as a group.
