1. RULES
1.1. The event is governed by the rules defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing
(RRS).
1.2. The Sail Canada Prescriptions to The Racing Rules of Sailing, available at
https://www.sailing.ca/uploads/2020/10/Sail-Canada-Prescriptions-to-the-RRS_2021-2024.pdf, apply.
1.3. The 2023 PHRF-BC Class Rules, available at https://bcsailing.bc.ca/phrforc/,apply.
1.4. Boats shall comply with the Transport Canada boating safety regulations.
2. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Changes to the sailing instructions will be announced on VHF 09 at 1145 26
December 2024.
3. COMMUNICATION AND SIGNALS
3.1. There will be no notices to competitors.
3.2. There will be no skippers’ meeting.
3.3. No signals will be made to competitors.
3.4. VHF 09 will be used for race communications.
4. THE COURSE
The course will be from the Todd Fiddle transit, around Discovery and Chatham Islands in either direction (if clockwise leaving and the Fulford Reef Buoy “VK”, Brinn Rock and
Seabird Point to starboard and the Chain Islands to port and if counterclockwise leaving the Chain Islands to starboard and Seabird Point, Brinn Rock and the Fulford
Reef Buoy “VK” to port) and then to the finish.
5. THE START & FINISH
5.1. The Start/Finish Line will be the line formed by the transit of Todd Rock and
Fiddle Reef, with one end at Todd Rock, and Vancouver Island at the other end.
5.2. Boats must cross the start/finish line in a north easterly direction to start and
must cross the start/finish line in a south westerly direction to finish.
5.3. Each boat is to start at the time shown in Appendix A that matches her rating.
5.4. Each boat is to record her finish time.
5.5. The crew of each boat must text or email, Stuart Dahlgren Chart Room no later than 60 minutes after finishing. The Boat name, Division and finish time to.

6. RATING
6.1. Each boat shall use its PHRF-BC rating to determine its start time.
6.2. Boats that do not have a PHRF rating will be assigned a rating by the race committee. Please contact the race officer at racingfleetcaptain@rvyc.ca no or make it up
later than 1800 Friday 23 December 2024 to obtain a rating.
7. TIME LIMIT/RETIREMENT
7.1. All yachts must finish no later than 1600.

RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn

11. PRIZES
11.1. The first boat to finish will be awarded the coveted & beautiful T. Moore Rum Race Classic Trophy.
11.2. Prizes will be awarded to first boat to finish in each of the following four divisions:
Division 1 –Rating lower than or equal to 115
Division 2 –Rating between 116 and 168
Division 3 –Rating equal to or higher than 169
Division 4 – All Multihulls
11.3. Other prizes may be awarded for outstanding feats of seamanship, or facsimiles thereof, at the discretion of the race officer.
11.4. Prizes will be presented in the RVYC Chart Room no later than 1700 or earlier if
all boats have finished.
11.5. Skippers, or their representatives, must be present to receive their prizes.
12.1. All skippers and crew are encouraged to join in the post race festivities at RVYC.

13. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the race entirely at their own risk. See RRS 3, Decision to
Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or
personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the
race.
14. INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party insurance with a minimum coverage of $2,000,000CDN.
