Who should come: Anyone interested in exploring the scritures, putting to bed old myths and wishing to grow spiritually

Meeting Description: achurch4me?

For so many within the LGBTQia community Religion and Sciprture challenge us... We hear preachers, politicians and pundits refer to Scripture to defend discriminatory views.

- Come explore the texts to learn what they say and do not say about LGBTQia people and relationships
- Find the tools and language to combat homophobia
- Learn more about a church 4 me! A people who Celebrate our Whole Lives!

In this four part interactive session, we explore the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures and dig beneath the hype and oft used rhetoric. In this hands on work shop we will look at the various translations and interpretations of the ancient texts to better understand their context in the ancient world and see what hope and healing these new understandings offer LGBTQ persons today. Session 1 is an overview, Session 2 debunks the myths of the texts often used against LGBTQ persons, Session 3 examines the passages that affirm same gender relationships and alternative families; and session 4 looks at ways the bible speaks positively to Gender Queers and non-traditional gender roles. We encourage people to bring a bible if they have one. Drop ins welcome; RSVP preferred by calling[masked] or [address removed].

ALL INVITED...
To be held at the personal residence of a member of a church 4 me
Address and details will be sent to those who RSVP later this week or email/call Kevin
If you have one, bring your Bible - any translation...

About a church 4 me
a church 4 me is a community partner of The Center on Halsted, a new worshipping community and the newest Metropolitan Community Church (MCC). Many of our members identify as LGBTQ and know first hand the challenges our community continues to experience especially related to spirituality and ?religion.? Together, we are building a whole new faith community where all are welcome, grow spiritually and find meaning in hope and love; especially those who feel left behind or overlooked in this world.
This emerging community continues to grow as we envision what church could be when we open ourselves up to what God is asking us to do and to be! On April 1st the group met and agreed to hold various activities in April and May to explore spirituality, look at the Scriptures 2 better understand what they do or don't say about our loves and lives... and to begin working toward launching worship at The Center on Halsted.
