Back2Spark meetup: AgileRai and SparkSearch!

Hello everybody,

It's been quite some time since our last meetup: we sincerely apologize but we're happy to announce a new must-attend meetup.

The speaker lineup is as follows:

• Maurizio Montagnuolo from the R&D department of RAI (yes that RAI). His talk will be about AgileRAI: a parallel computing platform for real-time video analysis and enrichment.

Abstract: AgileRAI is a framework that supports real time ingestion of video streams on which different machine learning techniques, such as global and local visual features extraction and matching, are applied in a parallel and scalable way. Extracted features are matched to a reference database of target patterns (e.g. faces, logos, monuments) in order to produce a set of meta-tags describing the ingested contents. Furthermore, these tags are semantically enriched using open semantic data repositories. The system is designed with a scale-out pattern architecture ensuring high-performance in Big Data management environments. This speech presents the underlying infrastructure and technology on which AgileRAI is built, including the design principles, and use cases implemented and tested at RAI labs.

• Nicolò Bidotti from Agile Lab who will talk about SparkSearch: a library that allows to easily index and search large datasets using the Spark framework.

Abstract: SparkSearch is a library built for Spark that allows you to easily index and search large datasets with functionalities comparable to a dedicated search engine like Elasticsearch or Solr. In this talk we'll see how SparkSearch works and how to use it in your own projects.
