Chi siamo
This is the Rome chapter of PyData, a community for everyone who loves Python, data, or meeting with tech fellows.
Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where people can connect, share their work, and exchange ideas on tackling evolving challenges in AI, data science, engineering, research, and industry applications. We are passionate about open-source tools and collaborative learning, bringing together enthusiasts and professionals from diverse backgrounds.

PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the United States. PyData provides a forum for the international community of users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. The global PyData network promotes discussion of best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualization. PyData communities approach data science using many languages, including (but not limited to) Python, Julia, and R.

PyData Roma Capitale Meetup @ ELIS Innovation Hub
Elis Innovation Hub, Via Sandro Sandri 81, Roma, ITPyData Roma Capitale Meetup! 🎉
We’re back with a special edition hosted at ELIS, featuring a deep dive into modern Computer Vision and foundation models.
This time we’ll explore how self-supervised learning is reshaping Vision AI, from research breakthroughs to real-world deployment. If you are working on AI, Computer Vision, edge systems, or simply curious about how large-scale vision models actually work under the hood, this event is for you.
You could be the next speaker for a future event. If you have a presentation, some interesting code, or an open problem you'd like to discuss with the community, compile the form and let us know! (Proposals can be in English or Italian, whatever makes you comfortable.)

Self-supervised Vision at scale: from DINO to DINOv3 and beyond
Computer vision has long depended on large annotated datasets. But what if models could learn to see without labels?
This talk explores the rise of self-supervised vision through the evolution of DINO to DINOv3. We will unpack the core ideas behind teacher–student training and self-distillation, and understand how modern vision models learn stable, scalable, and dense representations directly from raw pixels.
Finally, we will bridge the gap between research and production. We will discuss the journey of bringing these massive foundation models to the real world, exploring how knowledge distillation allows us to compress DINO’s intelligence into smaller, agile architectures — making foundation-level vision practical for edge devices and real-time applications.Sign Up!
