I think it's time for us to try a little surf fishing expedition to close out the year. The high tide is slated for 12:10 pm this day, so I think we should meet for a quick bite at the Jack in the Box in Malibu about 8am. This location is at 23017 Pacific coast highway in Malibu. Basically, it is right across the street from the Malibu Pier. We can then drive up the coast to Zuma Beach. What I normally do is drive just north of the beach, then make a u turn at the first possible spot, and come back south and park right along the road at the Northern end of the beach. We can then rig up and walk across sand to the waves and start casting. The last time I was there we got bites for the full three hours leading up to the high tide, the time before, did well just after the high tide hit. If we start fishing about 9 am it should be perfect. Here is what to bring:

A spinning rod and reel. I use a shimano 1000 stradic spinning reel, along with a 6'6" rod. A longer rod would be better, but that is what I have now and it seems to be working. 6lb test line is what I have been using.

#2 owner mosquito hooks

A few 1/2 oz egg shaped slip sinkers

A few swivels

Crack! The fish love it so much they are addicted to it! These are Berkeley Gulp! Power sandworms in camo color. These come in either 2 or 6 inch size. I bought a tub of these a while back in the 2" size at sport chalet for about $20 plus tax, and they are tough, if they are hooked right you can catch a bunch of fish on just one. For less money, I have seen the 6" size in smaller baggies on the pegs at Sport Chalet for $6.99. This size can be cut into smaller pieces if you so desire.

Boots or waders. You can wear tennis shoes and just run away from the waves, but I like knee boots. They usually work out fine. Bring an extra pair of dry socks to wear home in case a little water splashes up in your boots.

Bring some sunscreen too, the worst sunburns usually happen at the beach! Wear sunglasses and a hat too! Bring some sleeves in case it is chilly.

By the way, this is a fun fishing event, it aint a tournament, so if heavy rain is in the forecast, that will cancel the event.

I drive a silver ford ranger pickup, look for that at the Jack in the box. My cell # is 818-635-4342 in case you need to get ahold of me, or send an email to terry.kratzer@gmail.com, I check my email often.

So, are you in?
