Validity of evolutionary psychology:
- what evidence is there for evolutionarily selected behaviour, given that we cannot observe the history of the emergence of neurological structures as we can observe evolutionarily selected anatomical changes?

THIS WEEK: Existentialism is a mid twentieth century continental philosophy that arose partly in reaction to the precise, formal and academic philosophy of the Anglo-Saxon world. The individualistic and revolutionary character of existentialism is thought to make it difficult to define, with themes like anxiety, absurdity and death, and it espouses principles like authenticity, responsibility, choice and freedom. But it had to turn to phenomenology for its underlying theory, and postmodernism has now largely replaced it. Is existentialism now passé, or does it still have something to offer humanist philosophy? Reading; The Pursuit of Value, Ch. 1, Scn. ix.
