Magnuson Park Native Plant Tour
Dettagli
THIS SATURDAY WILL BE A SPECIAL TREAT
A 2-PART FIELD TRIP!
Part One:
12:00-2:00 Join Thane Williams for a tour of the garden behind the Mountaineers Clubhouse. Thane has been a volunteer steward of this garden for a number of years and will explain the native plant choices made for this location. You will get a chance to see the new interpretive sign that was funded by a CPS Stewardship grant. (For more details about the Stewardship Grant Program: https://www.wnps.org/cps-programs/steward-grants)
Please note that the address listed above is for the front door of The Mountaineers but the directions will take you to the back side where the garden is located. So please follow the directions rather than the address!
Directions: Enter Magnuson Park at the 74th St entrance. Turn left on 63rd Ave NE. Turn left again on NE 77th St, and look for the Mountaineers Garden on your left as the road curves. Park in the lot on the right.
RIGHT AFTER THE TOUR WITH THANE YOU CAN JOIN THE NEXT PART OF THIS 2-PART FIELD TRIP. IT’S A SHORT WALK.
Part Two:
2:00-3:00 Join Jonathan Hallet for a walk through Magnuson Meadows. This meadow is within easy walking distance of the Mountaineers Garden and directions to finding it will be given at the Mountaineers Native Garden.
Minimally used lawns in public spaces can and should do a lot more. For the last few years, we’ve been converting a lawn in Seattle’s Magnuson Park into a native Salish Sea prairie. Rather than a lawn, there’s now a diverse flowering meadow of forbs and grasses, flowering from April into October. It is beautiful to see and walk through, and it provides habitat for a diversity of invertebrates. The lawn here is not missed; there’s still more elsewhere.
No pre-registration needed. Just show up!
