MORE ABOUT US
Bennington is located in the beautiful Green Mountains and close to the Appalachian/ Long Trail. We are one of the sections of Vermont's Green Mountain Club (GMC) which, since its founding in 1910, has been the protector of Vermont's backcountry - the forests, ridges and mountains that make the Green Mountain State a special place to hike and explore the outdoors. Our first members built the 270 mile Long Trail from Massachusetts to Canada, completing the nation's first long-distance hiking trail.
Our club's members have a wealth of outdoor experience in the local area. All skill levels are welcome, please check the specific activity to see the difficulty range. We look forward to exploring the outdoors with everyone! Please check the Green Mountain Club Bennington Section website for more information. www.benningtongmc.org
In April and May, then again in the fall, we have trail maintenance trips to spruce up sections of the Long Trail, including from Harmon Hill, south of VT Route 9 in Woodford, north to the top of Glastenbury Mountain. We also take care of the Nauheim shelter (Maple Hill, near Route 9) and the Goddard Shelter (Glastenbury Mountain).
We have two potluck get-togethers a year, usually in November and January, and usually with a speaker or slide show.

Hike Hopkins Forest with Shires Young Professionals
Bennington Recreation Center, 655 Gage St, Bennington, VT, USGMC Bennington is pleased to co-host this outing with the Shires Young Professional group as we explore the Hopkins Memorial Forest in Williamstown.
We'll be following the main forest loop, a figure-eight trail covering 4.2 miles with an elevation change of 600 feet. This is an easy to moderate hike which takes us through this former farm, with mixed hardwood forest, streams, a functional vegetable and herb garden, and a number of field research projects conducted by Williams College Environmental Studies students.
The Rosenberg Center near the parking lot will be open, providing bathrooms and water fountains. We'll be meeting in Bennington at the Rec Center at 9:15AM to organize a carpool, as parking at the Forest lot is limited. We'll plan to start our hike around 10AM, and the hike itself will take about two hours.
Wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes, and bring water, snacks, sun protection (lotion, hat, sunglasses) and bug spray.
Our rain date will be Sunday, July 12, at the same time and meeting place as noted above. A message will be sent to all Meet Up participants if we need to cancel the hike due to weather.
We look forward to seeing you!
