Want to learn more about Marin native plants? Join us for field trips, lectures, and work parties. Most of our events are free to our members and to the public. For more information, check out our website and subscribe to our newsletter.
For over 50 years, we have been dedicated to the conservation of California native plants and their natural habitats, and to increasing the understanding, appreciation, and horticultural use of native plants. Annual membership donations to the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) support our programs and conservation work. Additional benefits include our quarterly magazine Flora, our twice-yearly scientific journal Artemisia, and discounts at local nurseries.

Meeting Location for Carpool: Blackie’s Pasture, Tiburon
Having reached the end of the early spring flowering season, there are still some plants to be seen on Middle Ridge, a Town of Tiburon open space parcel. A short walk along the lower fire road will take us through unmanaged, weedy vegetation to a serpentine outcrop supporting the rare Tiburon jewel-flower, Marin dwarf flax, and Tiburon paintbrush.
Directions: There is only room for a few cars at the Hippie Tree Trailhead, so we will meet at Blackie’s Pasture to carpool from there. From US 101, take exit 131 to Tiburon Blvd about (Tiburon) and drive 1.7 miles to Blackie’s Pasture.Carpools will continue east on Tiburon Blvd. about 1 mile and make a left turn on Gilmartin Drive and go uphill for ~0.3 miles. Parking available along the street in front of 80 and 90 Gilmartin Dr. The Hippie Tree Trailhead entrance is on the curve opposite with a gate.
Bring: Water and a snack. Dress in layers.

Location: Marin County Native Plant Nursery in San Rafael, near the Marin County Civic Center.Join a group of enthusiastic volunteers for our monthly Tuesday morning at the Marin County Parks and Open Space District Nursery. Each month we help maintain the native plants that will be used in restoration projects across Marin, from intertidal marsh wetlands to redwood forest. No prior nursery experience is required; Nursery Manager Aja Wylder will demonstrate nursery methods, including pruning, potting seedlings, transplanting plants into larger pots, pot washing, and working in the native plant garden.
Volunteers should wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes and clothes they don't mind getting dirty. Please bring sun protection and a water bottle. Gloves and tools will be provided.

Directions to the Marin County Native Plant Nursery:
From the south, drive north on Highway 101 to the San Pedro Rd. exit. Take the San Pedro Rd. exit and stay to the right. At the light, turn left onto Civic Center Drive. Turn right onto Matthew Hymel Drive, just before the Lagoon Park. This looks like a big parking lot, but you’re in the right spot. Follow the road to the end of the parking lot and park. There is a gate in the fence on the north, walk through the gate and the nursery will be on your right.From the north, drive south on Highway 101 to the Manuel T. Freitas Parkway exit. Turn left onto Manuel T. Freitas Pkwy and follow it over the highway, then go left to stay on the Manuel T. Freitas Pkwy and make an immediate right onto Civic Center Drive. Follow Civic Center Drive past the Lagoon Park and then turn left onto Matthew Hymel Drive, just after Lagoon Park. This will look like a big parking lot. Follow the road to the end of the parking lot and park. There is a gate in the fence on the north, walk through the gate and the nursery will be on your right.
Transit: The Nursery is accessible by a short walk or bike ride from the Civic Center SMART station and Marin Transit buses #35 and #49.

Point Blue Novato Bayland Nursery Workday

Join Point Blue staff and Marin CNPS volunteers at the native plant nursery in the Hamilton Baylands restoration area. This nursery grows native plants for an ongoing project to restore tidal marsh and seasonal wetlands at the former Hamilton Army Airfield. Learn more about the Novato Baylands Wetland Restoration Project. We always have a good time at these nursery workdays!
Please bring: water, sun protection, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Point Blue will provide all tools and gloves. The work area will be shaded as needed.
Directions: We will meet at the Nursery facility.

Transit: Short walk from Hamilton SMART train station, and accessible via Marin Transit #49 bus.
Aberdeen Rd is accessed through an open gate (just southeast of the Novato Skatepark) from Hamilton Parkway in the Hamilton area of Novato. Aberdeen Road is not marked.
Go through the gate onto Aberdeen Rd (note: 15 mph speed limit), then keep to the right at the fork to proceed to the nursery (ignore signs on left that say Do Not Enter) . The road ends at the nursery.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Apple Maps will not give you correct directions to the site. Please use written directions, Google Maps, or GPS coordinates. Thank you!
