Marmore Falls Guided Hike — Ancient Roman Waterfall (≈3 hrs)
Discover the largest man-made waterfall in the world — created by the Romans in 271 BC — on a scenic, guided hike through Marmore Park. With a tiered drop of 165 m (541 ft), dramatic viewpoints, and well-maintained paths, this is a sensory experience you won’t forget.
What we’ll do
- Start at the Marmore Park Entrance and explore four of the park’s trails, enjoying multiple viewpoints that bring you close to the falls.
- Your guide will share history, geology, and photo tips along the way.
- Optional challenge: a steeper trail with 600 steps that climbs to the top of the waterfall. (You can skip this to shorten/soften the hike.)
Duration & meeting
- Total time: ~3 hours (includes briefing, explanations, and a rest/photo break).
- Please arrive 15 minutes before departure for check-in.

- Begins and ends: Marmore Park Entrance.
- Language: English.
- Accessible from Rome by public transport.
Difficulty & route
- We will hike Trails 1–4. Difficulty: Moderate.
- Skip the final 600-step trail and the outing becomes Easy.
- Distance: ~7 km. Elevation gain: ~293 m. Terrain includes uneven sections and stairs.
Who should join
- Suited for expats, tourists, families.
- Children 14+ must be accompanied by an adult.
- Not recommended for people with serious mobility issues.
What to bring (must / recommended)
- Obligatory: hiking shoes, 1.5 L water, weather-appropriate clothing (waterproof jacket is essential — you can also buy a rain poncho at the park for €1).
- Recommended: comfortable backpack, sunscreen, hat, trail snacks.
- Optional: hiking poles, electrolytes, sunglasses.
Facilities & photos
- The park is maintained and offers bathrooms and food shops. Plenty of photo stops and food-break opportunities.
Safety & flexibility
- The guide may alter the route, shorten, or extend the experience for safety (weather, fallen trees, etc.). Final itinerary is at the professional guide’s discretion.
Inclusions & exclusions
- Includes: guided hike led by a professional, AIGAE-registered interpretive nature guide.
- Does NOT include: transport to/from the park, entrance fees, food, or personal purchases.
