Emma Fordham 'Tracings'­­­ [尋跡] Opening on Wednesday, 16 March 6:30-8:30 pm

Ka Kee Gallery of Objects is delighted to present 'Tracings', the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong by the locally based British-Swedish artist, Emma Fordham. 'Tracings' refers to her desire to display in artistic form the difficult interplay between heritage and progress; economic development and environmental preservation; following her almost decade long experience both in Shanghai and Hong Kong where these issues are at the forefront of both cities consciousness. Building and construction have become the content of her work. In her latest ‘Tracings’ series, Emma begun tracing aerial topographies of actual sites in her neighborhood earmarked for development directly onto the canvas. Later, like a surveyor, she rendered images of contour intervals, high rises and architectural plans overshadowing the terrain. While tracing the past and present, Emma also exposed the imminent threat to nature in the name of progress and economic growth. These pieces are the cornerstone of "Tracings."
Emma’s artwork combines elements of drawing, collage, stencils, spray paint and oil painting on canvas. Emma Fordham was born in the UK in 1974. She has lived in Sweden, London, Oxford and Shanghai before moving to Hong Kong in 2013. Since graduating from the Slade School of Fine Art in London in 2003, she has participated in group and solo exhibitions in both Europe and Asia.

家麒畫廊呈獻英國藝術家Emma Fordham香港首個個人展 TRACINGS [尋跡] 。 此展覽將展出 Emma Fordham 描繪城市建築比對大自然地域的一系列油畫作品，表達藝術家對變化不定的城市面貌獨有的觀察和探索，反思城市發展與自然保育的矛盾。

香港的自然環境與急促發展的城市之間的關係是 Emma 的靈感來源。高密度的樓宇、茂密的山地綠林、一座座披上面紗的施工大廈，這些都是我們司空見慣的香港景像, 也正正是藝術家的繪畫對象。在 [尋跡] 的作品系列中，Emma 從相當抽象的畫面出發，逐步調整並加入細節，營造出層次，於色彩斑爛的畫布上, 臨摹若隱若現建築施工平面圖和地形線，揭露出未來城市地貌正在形成中。名副其實是在進行臨摹與測量這一處暫時神秘曖昧的時間空間。

Emma Fordham 的 [尋跡] 透過在臨摹繪畫中理解身邊環境的地理特徵，及其蘊含著茫茫時間和歷史中追溯與尋覓蹊徑的意思。過去、現在，還有盛載我們夢想與抱負的未來，都能在一遍連绵山脈及黃土地上有跡可尋。

Emma Fordham 1974年出生於英國，曾在瑞典，倫敦，牛津和上海等地居住。2003年畢業於在倫敦的斯萊德美術學院（The Slade School of Fine Art ），並開始在歐洲及亞洲多個地方舉辦個人或團體展覽。自2013年移居香港。是次’Tracings’ [尋跡] 展覽亦是Emma 的首個在香港展出的個人展覽。

MTR Kennedy Town Line
HKU Station. Take exit B1 to Witty Street. Get out station, turn right. Walk 350 metres to Queen's Road West and Water Street traffic light junction, continue to cross, walk uphill on the right for 25 metres, and that's the gallery.

Car/Taxi: Go via Connaught Road West, up Pokfulam Road, turn to Second Street, get off at double yellow line outside hair salons (about 3 of them), walk toward Water Street in front of you, turn to corner of Second Street and Water Street, and the gallery is there.

Bus no. 40, 23, 103 or mini bus 28, 22 (anyone that goes Queen Mary Hospital or further via Bonham Road)
Via Boham Road, get off outside HKU East Gate, walk down Hing Hon Road to Pokfulam Road, cross at traffic light at Urban Council Public Toilet Building to Water Street, walk down the spanish steps to reach Third Street, and walk further down one block to Second Street, you should be able to see the gallery with big bay window.

Bus no. 10, 5B, 5 along Queen's Road West, get off at Chiu Kwong Street (朝光街)before Best Western Plus Hotel, walk uphill of Water Street, the gallery is on your left.
