Panel Discussion on Cross-cultural Design

Details

Ever wondered what it is like to be a designer working with clients from a culture different from yours? How about working with a Product Owner or other Designers who come from different backgrounds? For the next event, we invite experienced designers who have been working in cross-cultural environments mainly focused on the Japanese and the the U.S market.

The structure of the event is a panel discussion. Through panelists’ experiences, we will uncover challenges and tips that we can learn from.

PANELISTS

  1. Roxy Chaney

Roxy is an interaction designer with seven years professional experience crafting interfaces with engaging visual and motion design, innovative interactivity and intuitive usability. The experience design that shapes these interfaces is forged through a user centered process, informed by market research and validated by user testing.

Her interests in the field include natural user interaction driven by gestures and contextual cues, augmented reality experiences extending the realm of human perception and cognition, and ubiquitous computing as realized through sensor-rich wearables and web-based technologies.

  1. Stacey Baradit

As a UX product manager with over 5 years experience in China and Japan, Stacey strives to bring innovative design thinking and motivational strategy to her multi-national teams in order to drive effective product development. She specializes in cross-cultural User Research and Usability testing and leverages her background in Psychology to genuinely understand the user and generate insights.

Her recent projects have involved redesigning tangible interfaces in leading Japanese medical equipment, optimizing the UX design for smart TVs, and the creation of operations software and financial applications. One of her favorite projects involved a deep dive into traditional Chinese culture in order to understand how the elder generations and youths approached and preserved genealogical records and family history.
