## Award-winning Accessible and Inclusive Kimono Portraiture Experience
At INKIMONO, we are committed to creating an environment where everyone—regardless of nationality, age, body type, gender, or physical characteristics—can enjoy kimono culture with peace of mind. We focus on the various barriers that exist in accessing traditional culture and provide kimono experiences tailored to each individual’s needs.
These efforts were recognized, and we won awards in two categories—“Best Accessible Travel” and “Best LGBTQ+ Travel”—at the Japan Travel Awards 2026. Selected from among 206 applicants, we were recognized as a business committed to realizing accessible tourism and inclusive travel experiences.
## Wheelchair Users can Enjoy a Kimono
In this session, I’ll share the techniques and adaptations I use in my work to help wheelchair users put on a kimono.
Wearing a kimono may seem difficult to some, but by finding a method tailored to each individual, even wheelchair users can enjoy wearing one.
Furthermore, I prioritize ensuring that everyone can feel at ease and be themselves—not only during the dressing process but also during photo shoots. Drawing from my own work with kimono and photography, I’ll discuss my thoughts on accessibility and my daily efforts to help more people enjoy Japanese culture.
Accessible, Hybrid, Multilingual Meetup
A11yTokyo Meetup is a unique meetup that features various genres of 'accessibility', conducted in a hybrid format of on-site and online broadcasting, primarily in Japanese and English.
Many foreigners participate in the on-site venue in Tokyo, building networks through socialization sessions. We use the voice recognition technology app 'UD Talk' to provide real-time captions, and its automatic translation feature allows for multi-language subtitle translation.
In past Tokyo venues, many Japanese and foreigners have participated. The post-session networking opportunity is a chance to build a global network! Additionally, people from various countries participate online from both within Japan and abroad.
