Online training: The Versatile Actor

詳細

This is a FREE trial class for our upcoming 8 week online course.

The aim of the course is to make you a more versatile actor, able to evoke different situations and atmospheres just through the way you move. Using the sophisticated technique of Corporeal Mime we will explore how rhythm, muscular texture and inter-corporeal design give rise to different types of physicality, expanding what is possible for you as an actor.

In this course we will focus on two of the categories of acting defined by the founder of Corporeal Mime, Etienne Decroux: “homme de sport” and “homme de salon”. The former portrays actions related to sports and manual labour. The latter depicts genteel behaviour suited to the drawing room and high society.

The course consists of 8 real-time classes which include technical study to develop your expressive vocabulary, the study of figures from the repertoire of Corporeal Mime, as well as improvisation and composition exercises. You will have access to recordings of each class, so it’s not a problem if you cannot attend every class. You will also receive weekly training videos to work on in your own time.

This course is ideal for actors, dancers, performers and anyone interested in physical theatre or corporeal expression. No prior experience of Corporeal Mime or acting is needed in order to participate.

The classes are taught by Tania Coke, co-director of tarinainanika theatre company and the Corporeal Mime School of Performing Arts in Osaka. To find out more about Tania click here.

ABOUT CORPOREAL MIME: Corporeal Mime is a dramatic art based on the expressive power of the body. First conceived by Etienne Decroux in France in the early 20th century it is an independent art with its own distinctive technique, repertoire and creative processes.

ABOUT TARINAINANIKA: tarinainanika is an international theatre company specialising in Corporeal Mime. The company was set up in 2011 by Kentaro Suyama and Tania Coke who also run the Corporeal Mime School of Performing Arts in Osaka. Their original works include Rey Camoy, Tokyo Fugue and Coffee & I which they have performed across Japan and internationally, attracting 5 star reviews as well as funding from the likes of Japan Foundation, Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation. Kentaro and Tania studied with the legendary Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum (last assistants of Etienne Decroux) and were long-time members of their company, Theatre de l’Ange Fou.
