How reading changes the way your brain works #37
詳細
March Session: Reading and the Brain
Keywords: Reading, Brain Science, Technology, Education
Hi, everyone,
For the second session of our special three-month series, we are talking about Reading.
In this month, we look at how reading isn't just a hobby—it's a workout for your brain. We will also touch on the global conversation about "digital detox" in education.
- The Video of the Month:
📽 How reading changes the way your brain works - BBC
(Focus on how different scripts, like Kanji vs. Alphabet, use different parts of the brain!) - Supplemental Perspective (Optional):
📽 Educating Kids in the Age of A.I. - Ezra Klein
(Watch the first 1:00 for a quick thought on why some countries are returning to paper textbooks.)
Discussion Questions:
- Q1: What surprised you about the video? Did you know that reading Kanji and the Alphabet uses different areas of the brain? What other parts caught your interest?
- Q2: Paper or Digital—where do we go from here? Should we encourage the next generation (and ourselves) to return to physical books? Do you agree with the recent trend in some countries to ban smartphones in schools or return to paper textbooks?
Event Details:
- Date: March 22, Sunday
- Time: 20:00 (JST)
Join us for another thoughtful conversation as we move toward our final session!
