Shrine Festival in Fuchu関東三大酉の市「大國魂神社」

Experience the lively atmosphere at Ōkunitama Shrine in Fuchu, where around 100 festival stalls line the grounds.

With a history of nearly 1,900 years, Ōkunitama Shrine hosts the Tori-no-Ichi Festival as part of the rituals of Ōtori Shrine within its precincts. Alongside Asakusa’s Ōtori Shrine and Shinjuku’s Hanazono Shrine, it is counted among the Three Great Tori-no-Ichi Festivals of Kanto.

The festival is held on the “Days of the Rooster” in November:

• The first is called Ichi-no-Tori
• The second, Ni-no-Tori　☜We are going to this one
• In some years, a third (San-no-Tori) is also celebrated.

On the festival day, the grounds are filled with stalls selling kumade (decorative rakes) adorned with lucky charms such as masks, rice bales, beckoning cats, and treasure boxes. Starting around 6:00 p.m., the shrine also distributes special talismans called Shinpu Kumade. Thousands of visitors come to pray for good fortune and prosperity.

関東三大酉の市の一つ。府中「大國魂神社」境内に約100店の露店が立ち並ぶ

約1900年の歴史を持つとされている府中市の「大國魂（オオクニタマ）神社」。境内にある「大鷲（オオトリ）神社」の祭礼として執り行われる酉の市は、浅草の「鷲（オオトリ）神社」、新宿の「花園神社」と合わせて関東三大酉の市の一つに数えられています。

11月最初の酉の日に行われるものを「一の酉」、2番目の酉の日に行われる「二の酉」、年によって3回目の酉の市（三の酉）が開催されることもあります。

開催日には、境内に約100店もの露店が立ち並び、おかめ面や米俵、招き猫や千両箱といった縁起の良い飾り物がついた熊手がズラリと並びます。また、6時頃からは授与所にて熊手型のお札「神符熊手」も配布。さまざまなご利益に授かろうと当日は多くの人々が訪れます。
