PLEASE JOIN US this Sunday, October 5, for a potluck supper and hummus-making class with Jim Harb, well-known gourmet cook, advocate for peace in Palestine, and purveyor of Olive Branch Olive Oil, which we hope to sell at the church later in the fall. Location: Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 2931 Kingston Pike. Our potluck supper will commence about 6 p.m, and the cooking class will be held after we eat, about 6:45 p.m. The cost to enter is $4 per person, $10 per family, free for life members or if you volunteer to help set up or clean up. Please label your dish as vegan or vegetarian, and also list your name, the name of the dish and its ingredients as a courtesy to those with food allergies.

2. LOTS OF WAYS TO HELP. If you would like to help set up at 2 or 3 p.m. please let me know; the church potluck will wind down at 2 pm so I will take advantage of the people and furniture already there. We pay a person to wash our dishes at the end of the meal; adding to his tip jar would be helpful to both him and the Society. Bring vegetarian cook books or White Elephant items to sell at our sales tables. Bring take home containers. We need people to be in charge of aspects of the event: books, rummage, table clothes, labels, greeting in the lobby, table decorations, etc. Let me know if you would like to take on a role to make our events run smoother.

3. ENTER SAFELY VIA PAINTER STREET. I discourage people from turning into the church coming from the west on Kingston Pike. Instead I encourage folks to enter the parking lot from Painter Ave. via Concord Street, which borders Tyson Park. Painter Ave has a dead end sign, but the street ends at the steep church back driveway.

4. RSVP TO BOB. It's best to know who is coming to the events in case we have to cancel at the last minute. Last year two events were canceled, one due to possible ice, one pool party due to rain. RSVP by text to Bob at 865-936-0081. If you're "on the list" you'll be the first to know about a cancellation. Otherwise, just show up.

5. LOOKING FOR VEGAN CHEFS. We need chefs to present vegan dishes on November 2 and December 7. I'm happy to announce that Matthew Blondell will cook for us on Sunday, January 4. We also need presenters for February, March, April and May. We hope to be back at the AJCC pool June through September.
