Is God a Man-Made Concept
Across cultures and throughout history, humans have believed in gods, spirits, or a higher reality. But why?

Is belief in God simply something humans invented to explain the unknown, control society, or cope with fear and suffering? Or is a belief in God be a response to something beyond what we can perceive in the physical world?

This week at IQ Cafe, we have a guest speaker who will start by sharing some theological perspectives on this question. After a short introduction, we’ll break into small discussion groups where you’re invited to reflect and share your own thoughts and experiences in an open, respectful space.
🕒 Schedule:
8:00-8:20 - Listen to a bilingual lecture on the night's topic while enjoying snacks and coffee
8:20-9:00 - Discussion in small groups
Afterwards - Stick around and hang out with new friends!

We think it's a shame how many people go through life without reflecting on things that matter. It’s important to take the time to think about the difficult questions in life. It can be easy to live your life and just go through the motions.

The presentations at IQ Cafe are always bilingual because we want you to be able to practice Japanese and English! For the discussion time, there are tables with English and Japanese available. Let's practice language together!

文化や時代を超えて、人間は神や霊、あるいは自分たちを超えた存在を信じてきました。
では、なぜなのでしょうか。
神への信仰は、未知のものを説明するため、社会をコントロールするため、あるいは恐れや苦しみに対処するために、人間が作り出したものなのでしょうか。

それとも、神への信仰とは、私たちが物理的な世界では知覚できない「何か」に対する応答なのでしょうか。
今週のIQカフェでは、ゲストスピーカーをお迎えし、この問いについて神学的な視点からお話しいただきます。
短い導入の後、少人数のディスカッショングループに分かれ、オープンで敬意のある雰囲気の中で、それぞれの考えや経験を自由に分かち合います。
