How should we decide what’s right?

Every day, we make choices that reflect what we believe is right or wrong, but where do your standards come from? Are they based on results, rules, personal beliefs?
This week at IQ Cafe, we’ll explore different approaches to ethics and ask:

• Should we focus on outcomes, or intentions?
• Are there universal moral rules, or does it depend on the situation?
• Can one system of ethics really work in real life?

After a short introduction to key ethical frameworks, we’ll break into small groups for open discussion. Come share your thoughts, hear different perspectives, and engage in meaningful conversation in a relaxed and respectful environment. Everyone is welcome!

🕒 Schedule:
8:00-8:20 - Listen to a bilingual lecture on the night's topic while enjoying snacks and coffee
8:20-9:00 - Discussion in small groups
Afterwards - Stick around and hang out with new friends!

We think it's a shame how many people go through life without reflecting on things that matter. It’s important to take the time to think about the difficult questions in life. It can be easy to live your life and just go through the motions.

The presentations at IQ Cafe are always bilingual because we want you to be able to practice Japanese and English! For the discussion time, there are tables with English and Japanese available. Let's practice language together!

私たちは日々、「正しい」「間違っている」と感じながら選択をしていますが、その基準はどこから来るのでしょうか？結果でしょうか、それともルールや信念、あるいはもっと深い何かでしょうか。

今週のIQカフェでは、さまざまな倫理の考え方を紹介しながら、次のような問いについて考えます：

• 結果と動機、どちらを重視すべきでしょうか？
• 普遍的な道徳のルールは存在するのでしょうか？それとも状況によるのでしょうか？
• 一つの倫理体系は、現実の中で本当に機能するのでしょうか？

簡単な導入の後、少人数のグループに分かれてディスカッションを行います。リラックスした雰囲気の中で、自分の考えをシェアし、さまざまな視点に触れてみませんか？どなたでも大歓迎です！
