Are Temporary Connections Worthwhile?
一時的なつながりには価値があるのか？

Many of the people we meet won’t stay in our lives forever. We move, change jobs, graduate, travel, or simply grow in different directions. Even close friendships sometimes fade with time.

If we know a friendship won’t last forever, is it still worth beginning? Does a relationship have to be permanent to have value?

At this discussion, we’ll explore questions like:

• What makes a friendship meaningful?
• Is the value of a relationship measured by how long it lasts?
• Can temporary connections change our lives in lasting ways?
• Are we too quick to avoid relationships because we fear they’ll end?

Whether you believe temporary friendships are deeply valuable or think lasting relationships matter most, your perspective is welcome.

This is an open, respectful discussion where people from all backgrounds are encouraged to share their experiences and ideas. No prior knowledge is needed!

🕒 Schedule:
8:00-8:20 - Listen to a bilingual lecture on the night's topic while enjoying snacks and coffee
8:20-9:00 - Discussion in small groups
Afterwards - Stick around and hang out with new friends!

IQ Cafe is a place that wants to create a space for you to think deeply.
We think it's a shame how many people go through life without reflecting on things that matter. It’s important to take the time to think about the difficult questions in life. It can be easy to live your life and just go through the motions.

The presentations at IQ Cafe are always bilingual because we want you to be able to practice Japanese and English! For the discussion time, there are tables with English and Japanese available. Let's practice language together!

私たちが出会う人の多くは、ずっと人生を共にするわけではありません。引っ越しや転職、卒業などをきっかけに、親しかった友人とも自然に会わなくなることがあります。

もし「この友情はいつか終わる」と分かっているなら、それでもその関係を築く価値はあるのでしょうか？ 人とのつながりは、長く続かなければ意味がないのでしょうか。

今回のディスカッションでは、次のようなテーマについて一緒に考えてみましょう。

• 良い友情とはどのようなものでしょうか？
• 人とのつながりの価値は、続く期間で決まるのでしょうか？
• 一時的な出会いが、その後の人生に大きな影響を与えることはあるでしょうか？
• いつか終わることを恐れて、新しい人間関係を避けてしまうことはないでしょうか？

「一時的なつながりにも大きな価値がある」と考える方も、「長く続く関係こそ大切だ」と考える方も、ぜひご参加ください。

このイベントは、さまざまな背景を持つ方が、お互いの意見を尊重しながら自由に話し合える場です。特別な知識や経験は必要ありません。興味のある方ならどなたでも歓迎します。
