Join me for a challenging and beautiful hike to Mt. Houo in the Southern Alps of Japan!
We’ll leave Tokyo on Saturday, camp near the trailhead, and start hiking early Sunday morning to make the most of the day.
Expect alpine scenery, forest trails, rocky ridges, and the famous granite formations near Jizo-dake.

🚗 Logistics Plan
Departure from Tokyo:
- Meet at Nishikasai Station (Tozai Line)
- Saturday, May 16 – 8:00 AM
We’ll drive to the Aoki Onsen trailhead area, camp there overnight, and begin hiking around 5:00 AM on Sunday morning.
Return to Tokyo Sunday night after the hike.

⛺ Camping
We’ll camp near the trailhead on Saturday night for an early alpine start Sunday morning.
Please bring:
- Tent / sleeping setup
- Warm clothes (mountain mornings can be cold)
- Headlamp
- Food/snacks for camping + hike
- Chains spikes ( for snow sections)

- Proper hiking shoes
- Water (2–3L minimum)
- Lunch & snacks
- Rain gear
- Warm layers
- Trekking poles (recommended)
- Camping gear (tent + sleeping bag must)

- This is a long and physically demanding hike
- Please join only if you’re comfortable with elevation gain and long hiking days
- Weather conditions in the Southern Alps can change quickly

💴 Cost
Fuel, tolls, and camping-related costs will be shared among participants (final amount depends on group size).

An organizer fee of ¥1,000 will be collected per participant to support the Meetup subscription cost.
