Let's enjoy the traditional Japanese New Year!
In this event, you visit Garden of Shinen shrine and Nijo-jo Ninomaru garden to see the beautiful winter camellias and Japanese gardens. At the end of the event, we will visit the nearby Shoganin Temple to hear a talk from the head priest about the garden's restoration.

◆Rokkakudo temple
Rokkakudo, renowned as the birthplace of ikebana, is formally known as Shiunzan Toppoji Temple. Historical accounts suggest that in 587 AD, Prince Shotoku, while on a mission to acquire materials for the construction of Shitennoji Temple, was divinely inspired to build a hexagonal hall at this very spot. Within this hall, he enshrined the Nyorin Kannon statue, a deity he deeply venerated.
◆Shinsenen
Shinsen-en is a remnant of a Heian Period garden located just south of Nijo Castle in the western part of Kyoto. It is all that remains of Emperor Kammu's original palace and pleasure garden, established in 794 when the capital was relocated to Kyoto (Heian-kyo). Camellias are planted around the pond, creating a picturesque scene, especially with the arched bridge.

◆Shogan-in is a Jodo sect temple in Kyoto's Kamigyo Ward with a history spanning about 400 years. Originally built to memorialize the daughter of the Lord of the Saga Domain, it offers the tranquil atmosphere of a "hidden temple" despite being in the heart of the city.
Currently, under the theme of creating "a place of relaxation for everyone," a project is underway to beautifully restore the garden and open it to the public. On the day of the event, the 23rd head priest will introduce the temple and show you the garden currently under restoration.

◆Ninomaru garden in Nijo-jo Castle
Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned worldwide, was constructed in 1603 by Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun of the Edo Period. The Ninomaru Garden, created in 1626 under the direction of Enshu Kobori, was designed for Emperor Go-Mizunoo. This garden features a large pond with three islands, reflecting the style of Shoin gardens of that era.

日本のお正月を楽しもう！
このイベントでは、神泉苑と二条城の”二の丸庭園”を訪れて、美しい冬の椿と日本庭園を見ます。最後に、住職からお庭修復のお話を聞くため近くの勝巖院を訪れます。

◆スケジュール
11:00 阪急烏丸駅　西改札口前で集合
11:20 六角堂を訪れる
12:00商店街で昼食をとる
13:00 神泉苑の庭園を訪れる
14:00 二条城（二の丸御殿は除く）を訪れる
15:30 勝巖院を訪れる（住職からお庭のお話とご依頼を聞く）
16:30 JR二条駅で解散

◆六角堂
六角堂は生け花発祥の地として知られ、正式には紫雲山頂寺として知られています。歴史の記録によると、587年に聖徳太子が四天王寺の建設資材を集める旅の途中で、この場所に六角堂を建てるよう神啓を受けました。この堂内に、太子が深く信仰していた如来観音像を祀りました。
◆神泉苑
神泉苑は、京都の西部、二条城の南に位置する平安時代の庭園の名残です。794年に首都が京都（平安京）に移された際に建立された桓武天皇の元の宮殿がここに残っています。池の周りに植えられた椿が、特にアーチ橋とともに幻想的な景観を作り出しています。

◆勝巖院
勝巖院（しょうがんいん）は、京都の上京区エリアにある約400年の歴史を持つ浄土宗のお寺です。佐賀藩主の娘を弔うために建てられた由緒を持ち、街中にありながら「隠れ寺」のような静けさが魅力です。
現在は「みんなのよりどころ」をテーマに、荒れていた庭園を美しく修復して一般に開放する取り組みを進めています。イベント当日は23代住職が寺院と修理中のお庭のご紹介があります。

◆二条城
二の丸庭園 世界的に有名なユネスコ世界遺産である二条城は、1603年に江戸時代の初代将軍・徳川家康によって建造されました。1626年に小堀遠州の指示のもと造られた二の丸庭園が設計されました。この庭園には、当時の書院造りの庭園のスタイルを反映した大きな池と三つの島があります。
