Art museum & Photo Walk in Downtown of Art 美術館とアートの街で写真を撮ろう

詳細

It's time to hang out! Let's visit the Super Studio Kitakagaya (SSK) and take photos together. Maybe it is also a nice idea to explore the old downtown. See you in front of the museum at noon. It takes 10 minutes from exit No.4 of Kitakagaya station, the Osaka Subway Yotsubashi (Blue) line.

Here is an interesting blog which shares good street snaps around there.

[Event info]
The 4th Open Studio, "Open Studio Autumn, 2022" will be held for a total of six days from Friday, October 14 to Sunday, October 23, 2022 (Entrance Free).

Currently, 12 talented and upcoming artists and creators in their 20s to 40s in diverse genres such as painting, sculpture, video, graphic design, and product design are working daily.
In addition to opening their workspaces to the public, the SSK resident artists will exhibit their works under the theme of "Life to Life. The theme of the exhibition is "Life to Life," a term coined with "Face to Face" in mind, based on the idea that the studio is not only a place of production, but also a place of life and life itself, where the artist spends a lot of time. The theme "Life to Life" was coined with an awareness of "Face to Face" and attempts to directly connect the "life" of visitors with the "life" of the artists.
Many resident artists will be present during the exhibition period, allowing for direct communication.
We hope you will come and visit this place where young artists and creators of the future will be active.
During the same period, many art events will be held in Kitakagaya. Please enjoy the art by touring around town.

[About SSK]
While the term "Art" has become commonplace, the production environment for artists and creators is still largely dependent on the individual. While there is support for exhibitions and other opportunities to present the results of their work, support for the creation of spaces where creativity can emerge is lacking.
The SSK provides an environment where artists and creators can "keep on creating" in order to produce better products and supports creative activities from multiple perspectives.
Although studios for production are not usually intended to be open to the public, the SSK hopes to actively create opportunities for many people to view not only the artworks but also the creative activities that take place in this unique space, together with the artists and creators who make them. The SSK is the former Namura Structural Steel Works, Ltd.
The SSK was originally constructed as a warehouse for the Namura Shipbuilding Works, with the first floor used as a heavy-duty warehouse and the third floor as a drafting room. The SSK hopes that this building, which tells the history of a region that prospered through the shipbuilding industry, will become a new cornerstone of Osaka's art scene while retaining its original appearance.

[About the Kitakagaya Area]

Many shipyards were built in the Kizugawa area near Osaka Bay during the Taisho era (1912–1926). After World War II, the Kitakagaya area flourished due to the prosperity of the shipyards, but as the industrial structure changed, the shipyards began to relocate.
The Namura Shipyard, which had operated in Kitakagaya since 1931, moved to Imari City, Saga Prefecture. The former site of the Osaka factory has been dormant since 1989. A turning point came in 2004, when an initiative was launched to utilize the site, a heritage site of industrial modernization, as a center for art and culture. In September of the same year, "NAMURA ART MEETING '04-'34," an art project that would continue for 30 years, was launched at this heritage site. The following year, in 2005, the former shipyard site was renamed "Creative Center Osaka (CCO)" in order to utilize it as a permanent creative space, providing a place for many artists and creators to work.
In 2009, the "Kitakagaya Creative Village Concept (KCV)" was launched to revitalize Kitakagaya as a creative center for culture and art by offering vacant lots and factory sites in the area for creative activities at a low cost. There are currently 40 creative activity spaces in the area, making it a major art community in Osaka.
