this gathering is the first in a series of 6. it is part of kizunas “circles” concept, which are small, high-commitment groups that gather for 6 weeks in a row around specific themes.

haiku and tanka - Japanese traditional poetry - are often seen as traditional and rigid, but in fact, they contain many bold, honest, and profound expressions. in contemporary tanka, poets continue to explore and experiment with various forms of expression.

through both classic and modern masterpieces, we can be inspired by the uniqueness and richness of the Japanese language. we will also freely discuss the social contexts and emotions behind the poems, as well as our own interpretations. we will share our own experiences with poetry, and if we feel inspired, try writing a few verses ourselves.
