Hike & Lunch on Daimonji – Part 1

(*Please read through to “About Donations” or【ドネーションについて】at the end.)

It's become something of an autumn tradition for us to hike up to the Daimonji viewpoint behind Ginkaku-ji Temple and enjoy the beautiful autumn colours in the surrounding hills.

This year, I've picked two dates for this outdoor event — Saturday 31 October and Saturday 14 November — so that as many members as possible have a chance to join us for a relaxed hike and lunch together.
Here's our plan for the day.

10:30 – Meet at the Shirakawa-Imadegawa junction.
We'll set off once everyone has arrived at the meeting point.

We'll make a toilet stop nearby before starting the hike, as there are no public toilets along the mountain trail.

If you're coming by bike, please use designated bicycle parking nearby. There's no official bicycle parking at the entrance to the trail.

It takes about 30 minutes to reach the Daimonji viewpoint from the entrance to the mountain trail.

11:30–12:00 – Arrive at the Daimonji viewpoint.
We'll have a lunch break together and enjoy the lovely view over Kyoto. You're welcome to leave early if you have other plans later that day.

13:00 – Head back down towards Ginkaku-ji.
We'll head back down towards the Ginkaku-ji area. You're also welcome to stay longer or continue along the hiking trail on your own if you'd like to.

13:30–14:00 – End of the event.
We'll finish the event back at our original meeting point.

Please remember to bring your own lunch, drinking water and comfortable shoes suitable for hiking.

In case of bad weather, I'll decide whether to cancel the hike by 7:30 am on the day (three hours before the event starts).

If the hike is cancelled, I'll arrange a Kyoto Nihongo Club session at the Ace Hotel lobby instead, starting at 10:30. Please check the event page and calendar for updates before heading out.

Updated Plans for October and November

Alongside our regular Nihongo Club events, we're planning a few trial events and outdoor meetups to enjoy the autumn weather together.

Please note: From October, our regular Kyoto Nihongo Club sessions will start at 10:30.

Week 5 (Oct)

We may also add a few more outdoor events, such as Sketch & Stroll, during October and November.

📌 About Donations (updated on 22 Aug. 2026)

Thanks to everyone's generous support, our current donation balance is expected to cover our Meetup running costs for quite some time.
So, we're not currently asking for donations at our events. Please feel free to join us without making a donation. 🙂

If the current conditions remain broadly the same, we're planning to start asking for donations again from 15 February 2028.

We'll continue to review the balance every six months. If there are significant changes to Meetup fees, exchange rates or the current cost-sharing arrangement between the groups, this schedule may change. If so, we'll let everyone know.

📌 ドネーションについて（2026年8月22日更新）
皆さんのご協力のおかげで、現在のドネーション残高で今後のMeetup運営費をしばらくまかなえる見込みとなりました。

そのため、現在イベントでのドネーションのお願いは停止しています。 どうぞドネーションなしで気軽にご参加ください。🙂

現在の条件が大きく変わらなければ、次回のドネーション再開は2028年2月15日を予定しています。

半年ごとに残高を確認し、Meetup利用料、為替レート、グループ間の費用分担などに大きな変化があった場合には、予定を変更することがあります。その場合は改めてお知らせします。
