Philosophy Meetup & Crafting Chopsticks
詳細
Join us in this session for an artistic and philosophical encounter through making chopsticks, eating and thinking with our hosts Haburi, Tracey & Ulus.
From a Western perspective, East Asian chopstick culture has often been viewed as something “exotic.” There’s also the contrast between shared dishes and individual plate dining cultures. These relate to and reflect the ideas of the public and the private.
This session will be divided into 3 parts:
- Chopsticks (Crafting)
Craft your own chopsticks from bamboo!
How a single piece of bamboo can be transformed into a pair of chopsticks, and the relationship between material and body.
- Eating
Eating Session, with food prepared by Tracey.
Seasonal vegetables pickled in rice bran, sake lees, and salt Barley and bean rice
Roasted tea or hot water (“tea bowl rinse”)
All ingredients are from the farm of the Society for Thinking About the Disposable Era
This menu not only reflects Tracey’s food philosophy but also invites a wide and flexible use of chopsticks during the meal.
- Philosophy
Finally we’ll go over the brief history of chopsticks and then into philosophy discussion, guided by Ulus, with questions, exchanges, and sharing of experiences.
The event fee is ¥3,000 (food included)
