Golden Week Meditation Retreat (3 nights, 4 days) in Nagano! ⛩️

*Cut off for RSVP is April 25th!**

Turn off those phones, immerse yourself in nature, and get in touch with your deeper self on our upcoming silent retreat on April 28th-May 1st!

The retreat will be at the serene Iramu Karapute center in Nagano's wilderness, surrounded by the beauty of the Japanese alps. Vegetarian food is cooked by the local staff and sourced from their gardens. 🙂

We’ll practice a range of techniques, from yoga in the morning to mindfulness meditation and Metta (loving-kindness) meditation. A guide here on the practice.

We’ll balance periods of sitting/walking meditation and have short talks in the evening.

A rigid sitting posture on the cushion for long periods of time is not a goal. You may sit upright in a chair, lean your back on the wall and so on - whatever keeps you still and alert without making you drowsy.

All levels are welcome!

The Schedule:

  • Day 0: Arrive before 5pm on Sunday April 28th. Opening Ceremony. Give up your phones. Share your intentions. Meditate.
  • Day 1: Relax and Unwind. Yoga in the morning. Hiking and meditating indoors and outdoors. Onsen. Sitting meditation. Calming the body and mind to go deeper.
  • Day 2: Go Deep. Yoga. Ramp up meditation time. Walking and sitting meditation. Smile. Bring meditation to all your activities during the day.
  • Day 3: Integration. Yoga. Meditate. Eye-contact and sharing circle. Leave to Tokyo by 2pm on May 1st.

✨ Included:

  • Room (shared with a curtain in between, picture)
  • Two healthy & delicious meals a day (breakfast and lunch) plus dinner on the first night. 7 meals total. Light snacks in the evening. It’s easier to meditate when your stomach is not full, so we won’t be having big meals at night.
  • Meditation cushion and yoga mat
  • Meditation & yoga guidance
  • Admission to nearby onsen
  • A safe, quiet space in nature
  • Daily check-in with teacher to adjust technique

❌NOT included:

Transportation. The cost of transportation from Tokyo to the retreat center is not included in the price. The easiest way to get to the center is by shinkansen from Tokyo to Hotaka station and then take a cab. This is approximately 9,000 yen one way.

What to Bring:

  • A towel for the shower and onsen
  • Comfortable clothes; sweat pants, yoga pants, tshirts, hoodies.
  • A jacket in case it gets chilly in the mornings and evenings
  • Comfortable shoes for walking/hiking meditation
  • Water bottle
  • An open heart and open mind :)

About Your Guides

Misha Yurchenko is a Tokyo-based certified meditation teacher (MMTCP with Jack Korfnfield and Tara Brach) with over ten years of meditation experience. He has spent time on retreat around the world and practiced a range of techniques. Today his main practice is samatha-vipassana and the Bramaviharas in the Theravada Buddhist tradition. After experiencing extreme burnout from his venture-funded startup, he founded Tokyo Mindfulness and is dedicated to helping others break free from themselves. He takes an integrated (and practical) approach combining meditation, breathwork, and nervous system healing to help people let go of the ego, release old habit patterns and find inner freedom. He is the author of several books and lives in Shibuya with his family.

Yoga teacher - Senia Shageeva is a certified yoga, reiki and pranayama teacher based in Tokyo. She has spent time practicing a range of techniques across Asia and enjoys sharing these teachings in an easy and accessible way.
