East vs West
詳細
Philosophy provides the framework for understanding the world around us and teaches us how we should interact with others. Yet differences in philosophy often prevent us from understanding different cultures — even if we both truly desire the same goal.
Why do such differences exist? Is there common ground between these perspectives?
Around 2500 years ago, there arose great thinkers in China and Greece who dedicated their lives to understanding and expressing the meaning of life and human society. Though separated by distance and culture, they sought the same goal — to explore and shape the human experience.
Over the centuries, these two groups would become the traditions of “Eastern” and “Western” philosophy. Often pitted against each other, is there perhaps more commonality than we might assume? Does there interaction point to something more foundational? And can we learn from these great thinkers how to better understand and appreciate each other?
I hope you will join us for a four session exploration of the major figures of Greek & Chinese philosophy. Anyone is welcome to attend.
