🌸 The Highlights of Kencho-ji
The Cherry Blossom Tunnel: As soon as you pass through the Somon (Outer Gate), you’ll find the approach to the temple lined with Somei Yoshino trees. When they are in full bloom, it feels like walking through a soft, pink tunnel.
🪭Originally,
Cherry blossom viewing was a time when aristocrats enjoyed writing poetry while admiring the beautiful cherry blossoms during the Kamakura period
It is said that it was then passed on to the samurai and spread as a spring event among the common people as well⚔️
Here at Kenchoji Temple, cherry blossoms blooming in an arch-like shape, as if they are watching over the people from the entrance of the gate, and their dancing figure is also beautiful
Take your time to explore the temple and gardens while surrounded by the tasteful atmosphere of the Okamezakura and weeping cherry blossoms slowly dancing.
The area is 1.5 times the size of the Tokyo Dome. If you walk to the back, you will find 12 Tengu statues of various sizes enshrined and from the high ground you can see Sagami Bay and Mt. Fuji🗻
🐦🔥About Kenchoji Temple(建長寺)
It is the head temple of the Rinzai sect, of which there are over 400 temples nationwide, and is Japan's first Zen training temple. Samurai were encouraged to practice Zen and live manly lives. The temple grounds are designated as a national historic site. In addition to the Sanmon (Mountain Gate) and Butsuden (Buddha Hall), which are designated as important cultural properties of the country, there is also a Lecture Hall, which is said to be one of the largest in the Kanto region.

A shrine famous for "matchmaking" (En-musubi). Look for the "Matchmaking Stones" tied with a red thread💘
In spring, the shrine grounds are dotted with soft pink blossoms.
