### **Golden Silence: Photograph Yosemite’s Fall Magic Without the Crowds**

**November 7–9, 2025 (Friday–Sunday)**

Yosemite Valley is always beautiful—but in early November, it’s something special. The crowds have thinned, the air is crisp, and pockets of fall color light up the valley floor. This workshop is timed to take full advantage of the quiet, golden beauty that defines this fleeting season.

Over the course of the weekend, we’ll photograph the iconic features of Yosemite Valley—misty mornings on the Merced River, golden cottonwoods against granite walls, and glowing reflections in still water. Depending on weather and conditions, we may also explore Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove, or Tuolumne Meadows.

**What You’ll Learn:**

* How to photograph in harsh or overcast light using histograms and filters
* Mastering exposure, sharp focus, and thoughtful composition
* Techniques for capturing mood, depth, and the “spirit” of a place
* Recognizing strong compositions and using filters for impact
* Building a technical foundation, regardless of your current level

**Workshop Details:**

* Begins Friday at 10 AM in Petaluma (or meet us in Yosemite Valley)
* Based near the park entrance or in Curry Camp

### **Photograph the Colors and Stillness of Napa & Sonoma in Late Fall**

By mid-November, Sonoma County begins to exhale. The harvest is over, the crowds are gone, and the landscape settles into a slower rhythm. Vines still hold onto their last golds and reds, oak woodlands glow with rusty leaves, and the coastal light softens into rich, moody tones.

This small-group workshop explores the backroads and vineyard valleys of western Sonoma during this beautiful transition. You’ll photograph historic farm buildings, quiet country roads, vineyards in late-season color, and the natural landscape—forests, hills, and maybe even hints of fog.

We’ll focus on a single region to maximize time in the field and work with whatever light and weather the day gives us.

### **Master Harsh Light and Bold Landscapes in California’s Most Dramatic Settings**

**Saturday to Friday, January 3rd to 9th, 2026**

Join a small group of photographers on a 6-day adventure through some of California’s most dramatic landscapes. From the surreal dunes of Death Valley to the granite peaks of the Eastern Sierra, this workshop is designed to maximize your time in the field and minimize time behind the wheel.

We’ll make a sweeping 1000+ mile loop—starting in Petaluma, crossing the Tehachapi Mountains to Ridgecrest, spending two full days in Death Valley, and then working our way north through the Eastern Sierra and Lake Tahoe before returning to the Bay Area. You’ll photograph sunrise over the dunes, sunset at Zabriskie Point, vibrant desert canyons, the ghost town of Rhyolite, the Alabama Hills, alpine lakes near Mammoth, and the strange towers of Mono Lake.

Many days will begin at dawn and end after sunset to take advantage of the best light. We’ll also schedule time to rest, sleep in, and review images. An optional image critique will be available during the trip, with a follow-up session a few weeks later. A map of our route will be provided to help you revisit your favorite locations after the workshop.
