We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with others, even if we’re all just hanging out online together. See if it’s true for you at 10:00 AWST on Saturday mornings.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. And don’t worry, no one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice.

11:15 - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing

WHAT DO I NEED?
A computer with working camera and microphone, a good internet connection, and optionally, headphones.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Technical difficulties are part and parcel of getting together online.

If you’ve never used your computer for an online meeting, take a few minutes before we meet to familiarize yourself with how to use Google Meet by reviewing the below tutorial:

If you’re looking for a writing group that offers you encouragement, motivation, accountability and sass, we can absolutely guarantee at least one of those things.

You'll find us online every Saturday at 9.20am, and in the Kelvingrove iCafe every Saturday at 10am for people able to get out of their beds. Here's how it works on Saturdays online:

9.20: Join us on Zoom for a pre-writing catch up. (The Zoom link is on the event page, visible only to attendees).

9.30: We'll start an hour's focused work on our current masterpieces, muted or off-camera to avoid disturbing each other.

10.30: We'll get back on camera for a post-writing cool-down, cheering each other on for the progress we've made. Everyone's then welcome to stay on, hanging out and talking rubbish for as long as people can take it.

Please bear in mind people bounce around ideas based on experiences that others might find upsetting, or in a tone that might feel appropriate to them but not to others. So let's not censor each other but let's also aim not to upset each other.

And let's go for basic Zoom etiquette, giving everyone a chance to talk and not talking over each other. Whee!

Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.

**What to Expect**
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a discussion or speaker pertaining to writing. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Our meeting starts at 11:00 am EST, we chat for 15 minutes and then write from 11:15 to 12:15 pm on whatever individual project you are working on. Our writing session is followed by a discussion or speaker starting at 12:15 PM EST.

So, if you have a yearning to get some writing done, learn about the craft and meet other interesting and motivated writers, come join us. We'd love to have you.
