October 31st, 1998, 6:15PM - that's when the clocks, and the world, stopped.
You didn't panic when the lights in the airport went out - that started when the planes began to fall out of the sky. You've spent the last 10 days in the airport, waiting for the lights to go back on, for the power to start working - for anything, but no salvation has come. You and the other survivors have eaten through the last of the airplane food, so you'll have to set out into the city to find out what's going on...

"Ten Candles is a tragic horror time-based cooperative storytelling game through which you will tell the story of a dark world and those who fall victim to it.

Your characters will die.

The story we’re going to tell is not one of survival, but one of hope and loss. This is a story about what happens in the dark and the final few hours in the lives of a group of survivors fighting against it, losing themselves within it, and inevitably being consumed by it. Though their endeavor may be doomed to fail, it is our duty to make this story of their struggle as meaningful as possible." (From the rulebook)

Ten Candles is a highly collaborative and heavily roleplay/storytelling focused game; characters are created at the table as a group, and the only thing predefined is a setting blurb, with the rest of the world and even what you will be facing - "Them" - being partially defined by the players. There are no stats, only a communal dice pool which slowly reduces in size as the game goes on and the number of lit candles slowly dwindles.

The only thing players will need to bring is a writing utensil, their imagination, and curiosity about what's waiting for them out there in the dark.
