● Mt. Takagawa (高川山) Hiking & Visit the Linear Test Center!!

Let’s enjoy a hike to Mt. Takagawa with a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji, while chatting in English! After the hike, we can visit the Linear Test Center where visitors can learn about and observe Japan’s cutting-edge maglev (magnetic levitation) train technology. The maglev is expected to become the next-generation high-speed railway, capable of reaching speeds of over 500 km/h (about 310 mph)!

Location: Yamanashi Prefecture
Elevation: 975 m (Mt. Takagawa summit)
Ascent: 620m / Descent: 620 m
Total Hike Distance: 6.3 km
Total Hike Time: About 5.0 hours (including lunch break: 45min)
Difficulty: Moderate (ideal for beginner to intermediate hikers)
★ Highlights ★
Panoramic Views: Mt. Takagawa is well known for its breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji ( depending on the weather conditions )
Gentle Trails: The hike is not extremely steep, and many trails are suitable for beginners or casual hikers. Families and groups often enjoy walking along the trails.

● Participation Fee: 500 yen
(Please pay in cash at Ōtsuki Station, JR Chuo Main Line )
■ Additional Costs (not included in the event fee):

  • Your own lunch, drinks, snacks, etc.
  • Train fare to Ōtsuki Station (JR Chuo Main Line) and back.
  • Bus fare to the Linear Test Center ( 380 yen / One way) and back. (Cash only)
  • Optional: Visit to the Linear Test Center ( Entrance fee: 420 yen / person )

● Meeting Details

  • Time: 8:30 AM
  • Location: Ticket Gate, Ōtsuki Station, JR Chuo Main Line
    Note: We will have to stand in line for the 8:45 bus.

● What to Wear

  • Comfortable clothes (expected summit temperature: 10~18℃)
  • Proper hiking shoes recommended.
  • Light jacket (it may get chilly depending on the weather conditions)

● What to Bring

  • Sun, heat, and rain protection (e.g., hat, sunscreen, rainwear)
  • Drinks
  • Lunch & snacks
  • Towels
  • Plastic bags for trash/wet clothes
  • A change of clothes to wear after the hike

Restrooms may not be available along the trails. Restrooms available at the Linear Test Center.

● Approximate Schedule

  • 8:30 AM — Meet at Ticket Gate, Ōtsuki Station, JR Chuo Main Line
  • 8:45 AM — Take a bus to the Linear Test Center. (Starting point of the hike)
  • 9:10 AM — Final preparation, Start hiking.
  • 11:35 AM — Arrival at the summit of Mt. Takagawa — Enjoy lunch together in the panoramic area (about 50 minutes).
  • 12:25 PM — Start descending toward the Linear Test Center.
  • 2:20 PM — Finish the hike. Visit Linear Test Center.
  • 2:30 PM — The Linear Test Center is open until 5:00 PM
  • The bus to Ōtsuki Station will leave at 2:45 PM, 4:15 PM and 5:15 PM
