Legacy Walk 2025 – Pause, Reflect, Begin Again

Hello everyone,

In this meetup, we will once again visit the Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery (横浜外国人墓地) and Harbor View Park (港の見える丘公園). While a cemetery may seem like an unusual setting for a social gathering, this location was carefully chosen — and last year, it turned out to be one of our most meaningful events. So I kindly ask for your understanding.

The response was deeply moving, with many attendees sharing how the experience helped them reconnect with themselves and reflect on the passing of time.

The Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery is the final resting place for foreigners who, centuries ago, played a significant role in Japan's modernization. Surrounded by quiet paths and the stillness of history, it invites us to consider our own journey in life. In today’s fast-paced business world, we rarely take the time to pause and reflect on what truly matters. This walk is an invitation to slow down — and to listen to what our inner voice may be trying to say.

For foreign attendees, the setting offers a unique opportunity to connect with those who came to Japan generations ago, while reflecting on your own experience of living here.

For Japanese participants, it is a moment to honor those who helped shape Japan’s path to global relevance and modern growth.

For everyone, it is a space where time seems to stand still — a gentle place to pause, reflect, and begin again.

Guided Activities for the Walk:

• At the beginning of the walk, I will distribute handouts with quotes from thinkers, poets, and philosophers. Please choose the one that speaks to you and carry it with you as we walk.
• After the walk, we will gather at a nearby café or restaurant (no reservations required) to share your chosen quote and reflect together.
• If you joined us last year, I’d love to hear how your thoughts, priorities, or life have shifted since that day. This event is not just a walk — it’s a checkpoint in your ongoing story.

Meeting point: Minatomirai Line – Motomachi-Chūkagai Station, Exit 5

*I have not made any advanced restaurant reservations.

Important Note on Attendance:
As this is a small and intentionally compact gathering, each RSVP truly matters. When someone RSVPs but does not attend without notice, it can significantly impact the flow and balance of the event — especially for others who may have wanted to join.
To maintain the integrity and intimacy of the experience, I kindly ask that you only RSVP if you genuinely plan to attend. Of course, I understand that unexpected circumstances can arise — but repeated no-shows without communication may result in removal from future events, so we can keep the group respectful and engaged.
My goal is to create a calm, thoughtful space — and your consideration helps make that possible.

今回のミートアップでは、再び横浜外国人墓地と港の見える丘公園を訪れます。墓地という場所は、一見するとミートアップには不向きなように思えるかもしれませんが、この場所には深い意味があり、昨年の開催では非常に意義のあるイベントとなりました。

多くの参加者から、「自分自身と向き合う時間を持てた」「時の流れについて考えさせられた」といった声が寄せられ、非常に強い反響がありました。

横浜外国人墓地は、何世代も前に日本の近代化に貢献した外国人たちの終の住処です。静かな小道と歴史の重みに包まれたこの場所は、私たち自身の人生の旅路を見つめ直すきっかけを与えてくれます。

現代の忙しない社会では、「立ち止まって考える」という時間を取ることが難しくなっています。このウォークは、少し立ち止まり、自分の内なる声に耳を傾けるためのささやかな招待状です。

外国人参加者の皆さんには、日本に長く暮らしてきた自身の経験と、かつて日本で暮らしていた異国の人々との繋がりを感じる機会となると思います。

日本人参加者の皆さんには、日本の近代化と国際的な成長に尽力した先人たちへの感謝を表すひとときとなるはずです。

そして参加者全員にとって、時がゆっくりと流れるこの場所は、静かに「立ち止まり、見つめ直し、もう一度歩き出す」ことができる、特別な場所になるかもしれないです。

今年の取り組み

• ウォークの冒頭で、思想家・詩人・哲学者の名言をまとめた紙を配布します。その中からご自身に響くものを一つ選び、それを心に留めながら歩いてください。
• 散策の後は、近くのカフェやレストラン（予約はしていません）で、その名言について語り合いましょう。
• 昨年もご参加いただいた方には、この一年でご自身の価値観や優先順位、生活がどう変化したか、ぜひお聞かせいただけたら嬉しいです。このイベントは、ただの散歩ではなく、「人生の節目」にもなり得るものです。

集合場所：みなとみらい線 元町・中華街駅 5番出口
※Meetupのサインボードを持って立っていますので、見つけやすいと思います。
※レストラン等の予約はしておりません。

参加に関する大切なお願い
このイベントは少人数での静かな集まりを意図しています。そのため、参加登録（RSVP）をしたにもかかわらず連絡なしで不参加となる場合は、他の参加希望者やイベント全体に大きな影響を与えてしまいます。
