January meetup - Medicalizing sex.

詳細
This month we will take a look at the discussions sparked by the launch of the first medication for low sexual desire in women, made available in the market last October 2015.
*** IMPORTANT: although the primary topic is female sexuality, by no means it excludes our male members. Quite the opposite, their opinions and questionings will be valuable to add and develop a common ground. Sexuality is a complex issue that touches all genders and sexual orientations.
In between approval or disapproval, some issues are worth some careful thought:
-
Is the pill a fast lane to medicalizing the nuances of female sexuality?
-
Is the comparison to Viagra adequate or a marketing trap?
-
Can sexuality be adequately approached by medical "labels"?
-
Can desire be measured? And what would be a "normal" level of sexual desire?
-
What to do with social and cultural views/beliefs/practices, and how these can influence or shape sexuality?
-
Is such a medication female liberation or another sexist slavery?
Well, these are only a few of the questions that arise from the current developments. Bellow the link for an article on the issue, published by Pacific and Standard, though other references can be found online
Hope to see you all for some exciting talks.
*** IMPORTANT: this meeting will link two groups currently available in Suwa (and surroundings), Cultural Exchange and Gender Diversity . Since both have the same moderator, and some members are affiliated to both, this will be an experience to join the works.
