Paint in a Tokyo Gallery — Art Viewing & Painting Workshop
詳細
Spend an evening looking at art, exploring painting techniques, and creating your own canvas artwork inside a contemporary art gallery in Tokyo.
This small, relaxed painting workshop takes place at Picaresque Gallery in Motoazabu, between Roppongi and Azabu-Juban.
We’ll begin by looking together at selected artworks currently on display in the gallery.
Rather than simply viewing the exhibition, we’ll look more closely at how the artist uses color, composition, texture, brushwork, layers, and other visual techniques.
Then, using some of these ideas as inspiration, you’ll create your own painting on canvas.
You do not need to copy the artist’s work.
The idea is to discover something through looking — a technique, color combination, way of using paint, or approach to composition — and experiment with it in your own way.
What we’ll do
・Look closely at artworks currently exhibited at Picaresque Gallery
・Explore some of the techniques and visual ideas used in the works
・Learn how to use acrylic paints and basic painting techniques
・Develop your own idea for a painting
・Work on your own canvas with guidance and support
・Look at and share what everyone has created at the end
No previous painting experience is necessary.
I’ll be there throughout the workshop to help with materials, techniques, colors, composition, or anything else you’re unsure about.
The workshop is available in both Japanese and English.
You don’t have to finish your painting
Two hours gives us time to explore and paint, but everyone works at a different pace.
There is no pressure to completely finish your artwork during the workshop.
If you would like to continue at home, you can take your canvas with you and keep working on it.
If you would rather continue with guidance, you’re welcome to bring your artwork back to a future workshop and continue from where you left off. Each workshop can be enjoyed as a one-time experience, or you can come back another week to continue your painting.

Canvas, acrylic paints, brushes, and other basic painting materials are included.
You’re also welcome to bring any of your own favorite art materials.
Time
7:00 PM–9:00 PM
You’re welcome to arrive at any time between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
There’s no need to arrive exactly at 7:00 PM — just come whenever works best for you during the event.
Fee
¥3,000 per person
Canvas and basic painting materials included.
Group size
Maximum 3 participants.
This is intentionally a very small workshop, so everyone has enough space to paint and can receive individual guidance.
You’re welcome to talk with the other participants while painting, but there’s no pressure to socialize. It’s also completely fine to spend the evening quietly focused on your own work.
Come spend an evening not only looking at art, but experiencing it through painting.
