Nerd Nite Tokyo #79: Ten Years
詳細
While the Tokyo Business Meetup is on hiatus, we would like to highlight an event that we believe many of our members would enjoy.
Nerd Nite Tokyo is a social event on Friday nights each month, presenting talks on a wide variety of topics in science, literature, history, the arts, engineering, technology, the environment, and current events. Think of it as a more casual form of TED.
Here's a brief description of this month's event from the organizers:
This month’s Nerd Nite Tokyo marks ten years to the month since our first event! Join us to celebrate at Study Abroad Pub near Shinjuku for a couple of talks that’ll put a song in your heart and hopefully on your lips too — that’s right, we have a karaoke double header!
Our first speaker for the night is returning favorite Matt Kaemmerer. His 2019 talk on music theory is the most viewed video on our YouTube channel. This time it’s less theory and more praxis: how to mix up karaoke lyrics on purpose! He will explain why and how mashups work and give us a few tips so you too can throw lyrical loops at your next belt-out session.
The next speaker is Benjamin Poynter, visiting us from overseas! His talk features empirical and anecdotal insights into how we transform once we get a mic in our hands; that special karaoke magic when we break out of our own daily personas and, for brief moments, shine like rock stars. Also, he’s making a game out of how karaoke can be used for language learning: Duo-sing-o, anybody?)
Doors open at 7 PM. Come early and get your drinks and socialize before the show proper starts at 8 PM!
