There’s never been a better time to have a problem: Agentic development in business intelligence
AI can help you build semantic models, reports, and end-to-end data products or processes. However, with the rate and volume of change, it’s difficult to know how and where you can get started. In this session, I’ll give you a beginner’s guide to quickly understand what agentic development is, how you can get started, and where you should spend your time. I’ll cover the following topics:
- Making a mental model “building blocks” of AI and agents
- Why PBIP and metadata formats are important
- Choosing the right tools for your agent: CLI, MCP, and code
- Curating the right context for your agent: Memory, skills, and agent docs
- What agentic development means for self service
This session is intended as inspiration to help you start investigating and experimenting further on your own. By the end of this talk, you’ll understand what agentic development is, some key concepts for it to be effective, and some ideas of where the future of BI might be headed.
