Marriage has been a central institution for centuries, shaping families, societies, and cultures. But in today’s world, where cohabitation, long-term partnerships, and alternative family structures are more common than ever, some question its relevance.
Supporters of marriage point to its benefits: emotional stability, legal protections, and a framework for raising children. Critics argue that it can be restrictive, outdated, or unnecessary for a fulfilling life.
This week at IQ Café, we’ll explore the purpose and meaning of marriage in modern society through several different perspectives: the traditional, modern and Christian perspective.
After a short introduction, you’ll have the chance to share your thoughts and experiences in small discussion groups.
🕒 Schedule:
8:00-8:20 - Listen to a bilingual lecture on the night's topic while enjoying snacks and coffee
8:20-9:00 - Discussion in small groups
Afterwards - Stick around and hang out with new friends!

The presentations at IQ Cafe are always bilingual because we want you to be able to practice Japanese and English! For the discussion time, there are tables with English and Japanese available. Let's practice language together!

結婚を支持する人は、その利点として、感情的安定、法的保護、そして子育ての枠組みを挙げます。
一方で、結婚は制約が多く、時代遅れで、充実した人生に必ずしも必要ではないと考える人もいます。
今週のIQカフェでは、霊的、哲学的、実践的なさまざまな視点から、現代における結婚の目的と意味について考えます。
短い導入のあと、小さなグループに分かれて、あなた自身の考えや経験を自由にシェアしてみましょう。
