Enjoy a meaningful and festive New Year’s Eve celebration in this joyful community!
The evening begins with a short talk and guided meditation on the topic “Living with Joy”, where we can listen to Buddhist wisdom on living life with a positive outlook and peace of mind. Then we’ll have a party with vegetarian hors d’oeuvres and nonalcoholic drinks!
A fun raffle will be held as we enjoy the hors d’oeuvres: this is to celebrate our annual fundraiser. Click here to purchase raffle tickets (link will be added soon), or you can do so at the party.
The evening ends with 30 minutes of chanted prayers and song where we request Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion, to help us create peace in our hearts and in the world.

About the Teacher: Gen Kelsang Chogden is a Buddhist nun and Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Center Maryland.
Gen Chogden has been practicing Kadampa Buddhism since 1998 under Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, who gave her the title “Gen” indicating that she is a senior ordained teacher of the Kadampa Tradition.
Gen Chogden is well-loved for her warmth, kindness, and wisdom, which have come from her sincere and heartfelt practice of Kadam Dharma over many years.
Her teachings are always practical and easy to apply to everyday life. Through her gentle and joyful approach and her peaceful example, she has helped many people find true happiness in their hearts.

Start your year off right! Give yourself the treat of developing mental peace and relaxation to fortify yourself for the New Year. Refresh your body and your mind with a day of silence. Settle in with the first meditation, then enjoy a healthy vegetarian lunch followed by two more nurturing meditations.
Participants will remain silent, while the retreat teacher will guide the meditations and give practical instructions on how to nourish our mind and body in each of the 3 sessions.
Due to this retreat being silent, we will only have the registration desk open until 11:20am. All participants will need to arrive before that time please.

This class is offered in-person only. There is a different class topic each week. There will be refreshments provided after each class during our Sunday Social.
