🌳Forest Volunteer Work: Wood Deck Painting & Bamboo Handrails🌳

Would you like to join a project to restore an abandoned forest and create a comfortable, welcoming space in Ogawamachi, Saitama, about one hour from Ikebukuro in Tokyo?

We are currently working on improving a slightly elevated, sunny flat area in the forest to create a relaxing space.

We are continuing the construction of a floating wood deck, and the main tasks planned for this day are:
・Painting the floor boards of the wood deck
・Reinforcing and adding log pillars that form the foundation
・Installing bamboo handrails on the stairs

In addition, we also plan to work on:
・Setting up racks for drying firewood
・Preparing and organizing the area for leaf compost frames

There are many different kinds of tasks, and help with carrying materials is especially appreciated.
No special skills are required, and people who are not used to outdoor work are welcome too. We will work at a comfortable pace, and everyone can choose tasks they feel able to do.

Working in the forest is great exercise, and the work area at the top is sunny and very pleasant.

This event is perfect for people who are interested in nature or the environment, who want to move their bodies outdoors, who are curious about forest volunteer activities, or who are simply looking to meet new people. Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to join us 😊

■ Date & Meeting Point
・Meet at Ogawamachi Station on the Tobu Tojo Line in Saitama on Sunday, Feb 22 at 8:50 AM. The event will finish around 3:00 PM.
・The forest we manage is about a 30-minute walk from the station along a scenic, nature-filled route.
・Please finish any shopping and toilet visits before meeting. There is also a toilet near the forest.
・We cannot wait for late arrivals, so please be on time.
※If you are running late, we will send you a Google Map link to the forest, so please do not worry.

■ Example Train Access
・You can reach Ogawamachi Station directly from the stations such as Ikebukuro, Shibuya, Jiyugaoka, and Shinjuku Sanchome without transfers in the morning.
・Please check the comments section for details.

■ Participation Fee
・500 yen (includes insurance, snacks, and water for refilling bottles). Please pay in cash on the day.

■ What to Bring
・Drinks and lunch
*Work gloves will be provided.

・Clothes and shoes that can get dirty
(Hiking shoes are recommended, but some people join in sneakers.)
・A hat

・Around 10 to 15 people

〜About This Forest Project〜
More than 70 percent of Japan’s land area is covered by forests, but many of them are no longer used and are becoming increasingly neglected.
When forests are left unmanaged, people stop entering them, and problems such as illegal dumping of industrial waste and garbage can occur. In some cases, the land is sold to solar panel companies and completely cleared.

Forests that were once used for firewood, compost, and building materials have gradually lost their value as they have been replaced by fossil fuels, chemical fertilizers, and imported materials.
Since the COVID period, we have been gradually working to restore and care for this forest.

Our goal is to revive it as a place with new value that fits modern life, and to manage and maintain it in a sustainable way. We hope to create a forest that offers relief from the stresses of modern society and encourages connection and interaction between people.

“🌳森の作業体験〜ウッドデッキの床板塗装＆竹の手すり設置編〜🌳”

東京の池袋から約1時間、埼玉県小川町にある荒廃した森を再生し、心地よい場所を作るプロジェクトに参加しませんか？

現在、森の中の小高い日当たりの良い平地を整備し、癒しのスペース作りに取り組んでいます。

空中ウッドデッキの制作を進めており、今回の主な作業内容は以下の予定です。
・ウッドデッキの床板塗装
・基礎となる丸太柱の補強・増設
・階段部分の竹の手すり設置

そのほかにも、
・薪を乾かすための薪台の設置
・落ち葉堆肥枠を設置するための場所作りや整理整頓
なども行う予定です。

作業内容はさまざまで、資材の運搬などもあるため、人手があるととても助かります。
専門知識がない方や、外での作業に慣れていない方も大歓迎です。無理のない範囲で、それぞれができることを見つけながら作業を行います。

森での作業はとても良い運動になりますし、作業場所の頂上は日当たりが良く、とても気持ちの良い場所です。

自然や環境に興味のある方、自然の中で体を動かしたい方、森でのボランティア活動に興味のある方、新しい出会いを求めている方など、どんな方でも大歓迎です！ぜひご参加ください😊

■ 日時と場所
・埼玉県、東武東上線の小川町駅に2/22（日） 8:50集合・15:00解散
・駅から自然豊かな道を歩いて約30分のところに、私たちが管理している森があります。
・必要な物の購入やトイレは事前に済ませて集合ください。（トイレは森の近くにもあります）
・遅れて到着された場合はお待ちできませんので、ご注意ください。

・池袋、渋谷、自由が丘、新宿三丁目などから電車で一本で来られます。

・500円（保険料・スナック・ボトルへの給水用の水など込み。現地で現金で集めます）

〜この森プロジェクトについて〜
日本の国土の7割以上は山林が占めていますが、それらの多くが現代では使われなくなり、荒廃が進んでいます。
放置された山は人が入れなくなり、産業廃棄物やゴミが不法投棄されたり、ソーラーパネル業者に買い取られて全面伐採されたりすることも少なくありません。

かつては、薪や堆肥、建築材として活用されていた山も、現代では化石燃料、化学肥料、輸入材に置き換えられ、利用価値を失いつつあります。

私たちは、コロナ禍以降、この森の整備を少しずつ進めてきました。
この森を、今の時代に合わせた形で新たな価値を提供できる場所として再生し、持続可能な形で活用し、維持していきたいと考えています。
また、現代社会のストレスから解放され、人との交流が生まれる森にしていきたいと思っています。
