Welcome to the Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club (TGDC)—something akin to a book club, where gaming fans spread across the 23 wards of Tokyo and Kanto beyond can come together to discuss what they’ve been playing and share their passion for it. The hope for the club is to bring together all corners of gaming fandom—whether you make games, write, read, or simply enjoy playing them, but with at least some hot takes on what you’re playing—to have a freewheeling conversation and hang out for a few hours every few weekends. Conversations will likely be held in English but Japanese speakers are more than welcome to join as we should be able to accommodate translation with multilingual speakers.

TGDC12 Announced: May 31st, 3:30pm
Italian Tomato Caffè Vigore - Komaba, the University of Tokyo, Japan, 〒153-0041 Tokyo, Meguro City, Komaba, 3 Chome−8−1 東大駒場コミュニケーションプラザ1F, Tokyo, JPPull up a seat at Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club, Meetup Tokyo's (and all of Japan's) only drop-in gaming monthly discussion club!
So get ready ahead in late May for Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club Session 12, hereafter known as TGDC12, for another round of freewheeling gaming conversation.
How TGDC works is you can have the chance to drop in and share what you’re playing, any thoughts about gaming, and even if you don’t really play games but are swooned by the ethereal nature of them in the zeitgeist, you’re welcome to contribute all the same too.
Basically TGDC is your favorite gaming podcast, except instead of listening, you yourselves get to be the hosts of it for two hours. And no unskippable ads for premade cooking kits!
The club has only two rules:
1. Any level or background interest in gaming is more than enough to be a club member. Well, I guess that’s not really a rule, is it?
Ah, but here is the rule that emerges from it: Over the past year of running this club people have shown up to enthusiastically share their passions, hopes, dreams, and hottest takes for the future of interactive gaming. This leaves people who don’t know each other too well (or meeting for the first time often) really putting themselves out there. So please, be respectful of each other when they have the floor to speak.
For example, if someone is discussing their game (or topic of choice to bring to the roundtable) DO NOT INTERRUPT THEM and let them fully deliver their point, the thing they want to say. Then you can jump in, respectfully.
2. Share the floor:
I get it, people are foaming at the mouth to talk about a game or game-related thing at the club. But we have only two hours which sounds like a chunk of time but with everyone getting spirted away the clock just flies. So please let the quieter members of the table also merge safely onto the highspeed conversation highway. I will as host too try to do a better job moderating to make sure everyone can get to talk (and is not talked over).
Now, how to attend (please read this very carefully so you don’t miss our next session!!)
The Tokyo Gaming Discussion Club will meet at exactly 3:30pm right in the inside entrance of Italian Tomato Caffè Vigore, Komaba, the University of Tokyo. I’ll (host) try to get there 10 minutes or so early so you can see me right there to know you’re in the right place for the right thing.
I will be holding a laminated sign of our lovingly human made (non-AI-generated) logo.
Once we gather in front of the cafe at 3:30pm, we will either meet at the cafe or go to another backup location on campus with caffeinated drinks and sweets in hand to guarantee 10+ person side-by-side seating, so please gather by my held sign (and self) so we don’t get separated when we head off to our finalized roundtable!
Apologies again that if you arrive after 3:30pm you may miss our month’s session, as my focus as host will be on holding our session once we begin.
If all this sounds good to you, hope to see you on May 31st!
Also, TGDC12 is free to join. But YOU MUST RSVP to attend.
Bonus: Due to the efforts of running this club monthly and keeping attendance cost free, dropping a Meetup review after attending is highly appreciated.
Thanks and hope you can join in!

PS: Please note that TGDC is not a game dev jam or game industry networking event. Just talking about games only. If interested in that aspect of gaming, a few of those clubs can definitely be found across Meetup Japan. Thanks!
