"Eruptions on Enceladus: Whispers of an Unseen Ocean"

On Enceladus, a small icy moon of Saturn, geyser-like eruptions transport material from a subsurface ocean out into space. This month, Dr. Lucas Fifer (Earth-Life Science Institute) will describe how spacecraft missions measuring those eruptions enable us to understand the chemistry of the ocean and its potential to host life.

Speaker info:
Lucas Fifer is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Earth-Life
Science Institute at Institute of Science Tokyo. He received his PhD in planetary science and astrobiology from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2025. Prior to that, he completed his undergraduate degree at Vassar College in New York, including a semester studying at Waseda University in Tokyo. He is originally from New York City.
