Eat Nakji Bokkeum (Spicy Stir-Fried Octopus) + Sannakji (Raw Octopus)
상세정보
Hey Everyone!
Have you ever tried nakji bokkeum (spicy stir-fried octopus)? How about sannakji (raw octopus)? Well, you can try both this weekend at one of Korea's oldest nakji restaurant (est. 1965) called Wonjo Halmoni Nakji Center ("Original Grandma's Octopus Center"). We'll be eating their signature spicy dish, nakji bokkeum (which I was told could be made less spicy for those who can't handle all the heat), and sample a plateful of raw, squiggly wiggly pieces of cut-up octopus known as sannakji. Disclaimer: the octopus is, in fact, dead upon being served, so no worries about animal cruelty and such. For the less adventurous eaters, there will be other "normal" items as well, including gaeran mari (rolled egg omelette), banchan (side dishes), and rice.
Some more info. about the food and history: The owner/grandmother who created the dish, Park Musun, made history with her spicy stir-fried dish and spawned endless copycats near the old hotspot in Jongro called pimatgol, or "food alleyway." But with urban development and modernization, that area has been revamped with new businesses and they're now located in Bukchang-dong. The only thing good to come out of this is that their current location is bigger than before, meaning I was easily able to secure 15 table seats for this event.
Check out the details below for further information and hope to see you this Saturday night!
