Hallyuwood Film Club: Traveler From the North (2012) & North Korean Defector Q&A

We would like to welcome everyone to come, experience, and learn what life is like in North Korea. We will be screening the movie Traveler from the North (여행자) presented by the NKHR (North Korean Human Rights Refugee Rescue Fundraiser Campaign - 탈북난민 구호금 모금운동). The movie depicts the tragic story of a North Korean woman defector who through sex trafficking, a serious and unfortunately common risk that is part of the defection process for most women, becomes pregnant and carries her pregnancy to birth. The movie follows this woman's life and the hardships of her and her child's resettlement in Seoul.

The event will include a Q&A session with a North Korean defector (in English & Korean) after the movie to answer your questions about the dangerous defection process and the abysmal human rights situation in North Korea.

All proceeds will go to rescuing six North Korean refugees who are trapped in temporary transit countries and desperately trying to make their way to safety in South Korea.

4.10 pm: Group can decide to do what it pleases!

2. Please turn off your cell phone/beeper when movie starts.

3. Be considerate to other members & organizers.

4. Organizers will be accepting donations during the event and people who donate 20,000 or more will receive a complementary 'Thank you!' gift from NKHR for showing your support for human rights in North Korea and standing in solidarity with the refugees who have escaped, but are still living in fear of repatriation.

The gift is a beautiful tumbler decorated by award winning children's artwork depicting the human rights abuses that children must endure in North Korea. The art reveals the children's hope for a better tomorrow.
