Udate 07/23/25:
Well, the weather forecast as of today, July 23, indicates over 50% chance of thunderstorms on Sunday. That’s what was forecast for last Sunday (July 20) at this same time prior to the event, so, I ended up canceling it… and it turned out to be an absolutely perfect day for kayaking! Can’t win for losing with the dang weather here… so, I’m going to go ahead and leave it posted as happening no matter what. Just be prepared, those of you who have RSVP’d as going, that we may be rained on when we get to the site on Sunday, in which case we’ll just head straight over to the Tiger’s Tale for some consolation brew and comfort food...Also, this is cross posted with another Meetup group, so, there are actually over 20 peeps signed up for this event which is definitely the max limit for a paddling event. As a result, there is a waiting list, so, if you RSVP'd as going and have a change of plans - or heart - be considerate and update your RSVP immediately to "not going" so the next person in line can go, thanks...
Let’s do some paddling in the D&R Canal between Griggstown and the Ten Mile Run Spillway (less than 2 hrs. roundtrip). And afterwards, we can refresh with some suds and an early dinner just down the road at The Tiger’s Tale in Skillman (we should arrive there at about 5:00 PM).
We’ll meet up at the Griggstown Canoe and Kayak Rental where we can launch AND, anyone who needs to, can rent a kayak or canoe (paddle boards are not available). There is plenty of parking available on the premises.
As safety measures, bring a BYD (life vest) – available with rentals – and a whistle. Also, please note that this is NOT a training or instructional event. All participants are expected to have some basic experience and familiarity with the equipment.
We want to be in the water and paddling by 2:30 PM, so, anyone who intends to rent a kayak or canoe or to use an INFLATABLE kayak or paddle board must arrive by the meet up time of 2:00 PM to rent or inflate her/his watercraft and be ready to go at 2:30 PM. It’s not fair to make the other participants wait around for her/him to do this, O.K.?
Thanks to anyone and everyone who can provide assistance to others in carpooling or getting rented gear to the site of this event.
