상세정보

Hi everyone,

Times are uncertain and challenging but let's not get that prevent us from doing amazing hikes and continue to get out of Auckland.

Day 1. Arrive at 9.45 am. Plan to hike Te Aroha summit track. Duration 5-6 hrs. Level Intermediate to Advanced. At 952 m, Mount Te Aroha is the highest peak in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park. The Te Aroha Summit Track offers great views across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region. It’s steep most of the way, the last quarter can be challenging with very steep bits. There is a big radio tower at the top. Rocks can be slippery if it rains so be careful.

Te Aroha Summit Track ascends almost 1 km from Te Aroha town to the top of Mt Te Aroha.

Follow the track from the Mokena Geyser in the Te Aroha Domain up the well benched track for 45 minutes to the Whakapipi Lookout. From the lookout, you can enjoy views over the Hauraki Plains.
The Kaimai-Mamaku Conservation Park begins just above the lookout. The track continues through a small saddle and then steeply up for another two hours to reach the summit. The track is steep and the surface is rough.

Mount Te Aroha provides 360 degree views across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. Ruapehu, Ngāuruhoe and Taranaki are visible on a clear day. Be prepared for alpine weather conditions at the summit.
Return to Te Aroha via the same track (this is the most direct route). Alternatively, you can return via the Tui Mine Track for a longer loop, or via Waiorongomai Saddle and Tui Saddle for an even longer day walk.

Allow up to 7 hrs to complete this hike, including stops.
We will be hiking at a medium comfortable pace where everyone is going to feel supported and we will not be rushing. However, this hike is not suitable for beginners so please sign up if you feel that you have a good hiking ability and feel confident hiking with the group at a medium pace...

Summary of the hike:
Duration: Up to 7 hrs to complete the whole hike including stops.
Length: Around 10 km approx
Terrain: Proper hiking track, this track is well used so should not be overgrown or muddy at this time of year.
Difficulty: 3 to 3.5, suitable for intermediate and advanced hikers.

What to bring: Enough food for the whole day, lunch and snacks. Water bottle, first aid items, warm clothes, personal items. Hiking gear, clothes to change into after the hike. Bringing another pair of shoes to change into after the hike is also a good idea.

We also have options to stop at a spa in Te Aroha domain after the hike or/and to stop for refreshments and a bite to eat at a Turkish cafe... Both of these are optional and can be included or skipped, we can decide as a group. The spa does have to be booked in advance though, so please indicate if you would like to go or not and I can book depending on numbers...

Meeting places: 10 am. 102 Whitaker Street, Te Aroha 3320. Meet by the Te Aroha visitor centre.
