**MEETING**
The architectural complexity of fullstack applications can make it difficult to determine where in the architecture certain problems occur. Consider an all-too-common bug ticket description like "this screen is really slow". Is the API call slow? Is the database fetch slow? Is the web server response slow? Knowing precisely where the problem exists is crucial to fixing it. Furthermore, devs should know about problems as soon as possible, instead of just through bug tickets. Observability technology delivers insight into complex architectural systems, providing devs with performance, error, and component information as the system executes. This talk will look at how to configure a simple React, NextJS, and Python fullstack app for observability.

**Event Details**
This talk will provide overview of the basic tenants of quantum computing and highlight the areas in which we hope to find advantages. It will also provide a brief review of the leading quantum computer architectures of recent years, describing their advantages and limitations. It will conclude with a discussion of the opportunities that High Performance Computing (HPC) and AI have in the quantum computing field, both to improve quantum hardware and algorithms, as well as to outperform quantum computers on the very tasks for which we hope that they excel.

**Speaker**
**Taylor Patti** is a senior research scientist at NVIDIA. Her research interests are all things at the intersection of quantum and classical computation, including quantum algorithms, machine learning for quantum applications, and the efficient simulation of quantum systems. She holds Bachelor's degrees from Chapman University in Physics and Computational Science, Mathematics, and Spanish, as well as a Master's and PhD in theoretical physics from Harvard University.

**A Remote Presentation by Dr. Ronald Baecker:**

For eighty years, digital technology visionaries have imagined and created systems to support human knowledge, learning, creativity, medicine, health, communications, community, commerce, power, and convenience. Yet these advances have been subverted by ill-advised uses and by bad actors creating hate speech, disinformation, job loss and industry disruption, monopolistic abuse of market dominance, helplessness, mental distress, injustice, loss of privacy, and poor security and safety. These nightmares seem overwhelming, but there is much that we can do, much that we must do.

As digital technology professionals, we can focus on computer science applications in the service of good. We can anticipate how our creations may be subverted by poor design or bad actors and adjust our plans accordingly. Throughout our careers, we can be guided by our conscience and by ethics. Looking outwards, we can educate people to better understand digital technologies and their uses and misuses. We can aid citizens seeking to avoid adverse consequences of tech deployment. As professionals, we can seek systems and standards of effective education and accountability. Finally, we can work with governments to ensure appropriate legislation and enforcement.

Dr. Ronald Baecker will pay particular attention to artificial intelligence, a technology of great potential for human betterment that may be negated by harms that arise when it is deployed before it is reliable and safe.

This presentation is based on his book with the same title written in 2021.
